r8 installed on advent vega but can't connect to wifi

hi there everyone,

So, got my advent vega today and have successfully (i think) installed the r8 rom. Everything seems slick smooth and generally brilliant, however i have one small (but highly irritating) problem, i can't get it to connect to my wireless network.

It says that it is continuously searching but will never connect. I can see that my network is there, I can see the strength of my 'potential' connection and when I choose the network I can choose to connect, but it never actually connects. I feel like I'm missing something simple but wireless networks and myself generally don't have a good relationship...any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Nate

This may sound obvious, but when the Vega finds your wireless network, have you entered the WEP/WPA key? If your home network is secured, as it should be, it will have a key code that you need to enter to connect devices to it. It is usually a series of letters and numbers that are case-sensitive, meaning that capital letters are read differently than lowercase letters. If you have never changed this code, it will be with the paperwork you got with your broadband. If you have changed it, enter the new version into the wireless settings on your Vega.

The only other options I can think of are to reboot the tablet or reflash the rom. Sometimes when a rom is installed on a phone or tablet it can be glitchy. Rebooting or reinstalling often fixes it. For example, I installed Vegacomb on my tablet the other day, but when I started using it, everything force closed on me. I reinstalled the rom, making sure I wiped the cache, etc, and it has been fine ever since - apart from a known problem with the sound settings.

By the way an unsecured network is not a good idea, due to issues around people piggy-backing off your network. If someone uses your bandwidth for illegal purposes, then you will be the one in trouble, as it will trace back to your internet connection.

Search for "Wifi Analyser". There are a number of posts on how to fix this.

In short, Linux (on which Android is based) has a long history of WiFi problems. Moving the channel used for Wifi and a couple of other tweaks usually solves the problem.
