Hi,

I can't test this now as my Vega is off for repair but since the last update my ZTE Blade can now stream avi files directly from my NAS when previously it used to start to stream then come up with an error then copy the entire file to my sd card then play it.

Streaming now work fine could someone confirm if it works OK on the vega too?

just haven't seen it mentioned on here - if it's old news or nobody cares feel free to report this to a mod for deletion.

cheers,

Stvee.

It was part of the latest ES File Explorer update, look at the 'What's New' tab here:

https://market.andro...droid.pop&hl=en

Works for me too - streaming video from my Linkstation to my Vega.

Haven't tried it on my Blade yet though.

lol - no probs I'm addicted to the whats new bit, since getting the vega and OSF (my first android devices) I constantly check for new updates almost as often as I check for new emails, never let apps auto update in case I miss some cool new feature and always read the whats new in this version section.

no idea why - it's become an obsession - is it just me or an android thing?

I even feel a little sad when I check for updates and there are none :(

I think I may need some help.........

lol, yes, yes, you may!

Checked last night, works great for streaming - hit normal issues with a small (<0.5 seconds) pauses that I get with gmote, but they're few and far between, and probably more to do with the distance I am from my router. Thanks for sharing

It doesn't seem to work for MP4 files :(

Didn't try them - fired up an avi and an mkv if memory serves? You might need to use something like moboplayer for the mp4s?

It's OK - I use plex as my media server to my Vega which streams everything.

yogi....

I've been playing with plex since you mentioned it on another thread.

problem is that it constantly errors. I sent the details to plex, and it sounds like its a problem with my rom / media player.

are you running vegacomb on your Vega?

I'm gonna have to try this on corvus to see if it works

I am on Corvus5. I think the problem on VegaComb (where it didn't work for me either) is that it needs hardware video acceleration. Hopefully the new kernel that Newbe5 is working on will fix this.

yeah, the lack of hw acceletation is the only problem in vc.

I did consider going back to corvus5 but that feels like a step backwards that I don't wanna make.

I eagerly watch my twitter feed waiting for news from newbe.

the next version really could be THE one

I am the same, but I use my Vega for video streaming every day so am back on Corvus5 for now.

Best way i've found to stream video over network shares is to use CIFS Manager to mount your shares. Your vega will then see you network shares as local drives, just like playing the video direct from the sdcard. Playing videos this way i have seen no performance differences using either Corvus5 or VC 1.7.

I use ES File Manager and have tried it to stream movies, seems ok but will only play limited video filetypes.

Better if you want is Mount Manager - the pro version (with no ads) costs about £1.75 from the market, but it will automatically mount / dismount on WiFi connect / disconnect / reboot etc. Again, it just works!
