RAM Optimization Kernel Question

Hey All,

A recent post on XDA shows nice speed by RAM script tweaking:

http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1111145

Video here: http://www.talkandro...-android-video/

The requirement is that the Kernel supports init.d.

My question is if the current Advent Vega 1.08 Kernel Source supports this, and if the same support goes for Paul's ROM and the VegaComb?

I am currently using the 1.7 VComb and it is sweet, but faster = sweeter.

I guess that this may best be responded to by Newbe5 or Simonta etc but anyone please shout if you know :-)

Thanks!

Sounds good and will probably work but it is more for multitasking and takes advantage of memory. Although for the speed increase it may well be worth trying.

Not sure if the default script will be optimised for our memory size though. But yes it should work as far as I know. :o)

Bump-idy bump.

Any of the heavy hitters want to answer this? Newbie5? Simonta?

How do you know I'm heavy? :D

This is one for Newbe5 methinks. RAM optimisation is key of course but I believe that Corvus5 and VC are already optimised.

I'm not that much of a speed freak myself, but if I were you, I'd dig out Root Explorer, navigate to /proc/sys/vm. Then right click each file mentioned in the script (swappiness, vfs_cache_pressure etc) open in the text editor and have a fenagle. The low memory killer values in /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree are also key.

You'll need to reboot after fiddling and caveat emptor - get these badly wrong and a reflash might be needed. Start off with a backup!

Cheers

I may have a dabble when I get 10 mins.

Thanks Simonta : O)

Hey Simonta,

Thanks for that, I will look into it over the weekend. I may not be much of an Android coder or hacker but definitely want to do my bit.

I'll let you know what I find.

Also Arnookie, let me know how you get on, we can compare notes, swap stories and cry into beers together ;-D
