Guest xanadu Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Can WAP be viewed on the SPV? is there an WAP browser available?? Eran Yes Ordinary CSD WAP works fine. GPRS WAP works good also. No GPRS subscription is required for CSD WAP.
Guest Bazz Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Internet Explorer on the phone can be used for WAP as well. If you are connected via GPRS you cannot see all WAP sites. Some websites detect the browser type and because IE is a full HTML browser as well it will flick you over to HTML even if you don't want to.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 using an o2 sim in my spv which doesnt have gprs so how do i view normal wap sites? everytime i try my phone tries to connect through gprs which i dont have. any ideas? tried searching the site but got nothing.
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 As I posted before, but seems repeating, Orange are offering a GPRS WAP "bundle" of 10meg-a-month WAP access for £4, and the first three months FREE. NO commitment to a long-term contract - you could in theory cancel after the first three months. Given that WAP is basically ASCII text, "10 megabytes a month" equates to genuinely uncapped and unmetred access. (It's roughly equal to 45 copies of "Hamlet" in ASCII format.) Note that you can send email via WAP, (in txt format only) if you subscribe to Orange's free email service (from their website) and that email is NOT restricted to the 160 character limit of SMS text. So, £4 gets you either 40 SMS messages of 160 characters.... OR unlimited WAP emails of any length you like, with the first three month free. Spot which is the better deal?!
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 i have an old genie o2 sim, giving me unlimited sms, unlimited wap, and 50 mins free offpeak calls everyday. obviously i am pretty reluctant to give this up, which i would have to do to get gprs enabled with o2. so i pose the question again, is it possible to alter the settings to view wap sites on o2 without going through gprs?
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Yes it is. You can access WAP via CSD. Orange CSR can give you the settings, but they'll ONLY give you the settings for ORANGE WAP. (Why WOULD they know what the O2 settings are?!)
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 ok i may be stupid but...i have the o2 settings, i just dont know where to put them. everytime i try, my phone still tries to use gprs. any chance of a step by step guide?
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Search for them. I resolved this issue only yesterday on another post in this forum.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 just searched, found nothing i havent already read, wanna give me a clue?
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Hmm, seems the Search function doesn't like "o2" - but then again, who does? :) Here we go mate: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3798
