Hi guys just brought my vega yesterday pretty please with it so far.

now i was wondering how to use skype on it. can you use the build in mic or can you also use a usb mic.

one problem ive had with it replying to topics on forums then does a box and the keyboard doesn't open i found a thread it said disable visual rte editor but i couldn't find it that wasan't for this forum though.

and this new software... how do i do about installing it?

do you install the custom rom then the kitchen and do you just install kitchen straight? is the kitchen the best one? there seems to be a few you can install but i want to get skype working at the moment.

thanks guys

hey, welcome to the forum :)

firstly, there is a slight problem wit the new modaco, as u cant reply, and i think thats effected everyone, not sure if theres a fix, but there is a topic.

i assume u r using the stock rom which came wit the vega.

so then, uve got a choice into which rom u would like to use. Here are a few...

1. R8- this is the rom wit the kitchen yes, and is gd for newbies, fast and smooth, and comes with the market, not much else.

2. Corvus5- This is a newer rom then R8, and is also very fast and smooth, comes wit the market and is a favorite of many.

3. Vegacomb 1.7- this is Honeycomb, simpless ;) (but still in beta phase, so not everything works)

4. Cm7- another fast slick rom, but i think its in beta still.

so, take ur pick.

hav u got the usb drivers?

Welcome JackzR.

First of all, about using Visual rte editor. If you look on the right hand side of the Modaco page when you're logged in, you'll see a bar labelled 'My Settings', Click it, and you'll see 'Enable RTE (visual) Editor. Make sure that is unchecked and you'll be able to post from the Vega.

Next thing to do is to update your base ROM, by following the 'FULL update manual" in the 'downloads' section of www.myadventvega.co.uk. Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, especially about having the Vega plugged into the power supply.

The main reason for the previous step was to make sure you have all the necessary bits for updating your ROM. If it doesn't work, you can take it back.

From here on, there are two ways to upgrade your Vega. I recommend this one:

First of all, download the modded stock ROM to your PC. Instuctions and download link Here

Next, install it as you would install the advent 1.10 update in the previous step.

Once this is done you don't need to use your PC for upgrades ever again. Instead, to install the ROM of your choice you:

1. Download the ROM of your choice. You can find the links either through this forum or via google.

2. Start the ROM manager app.

3. Choose 'Reboot into recovery'. The Vega will reboot into recovery mode with a short menu at the top left of the screen.

4. You may want to perform a backup first. So select 'Backup' from the menu. Use the volume keys to move up and down the menu, and the power button to select a menu item.

5. When the backup is complete, select 'install zip file from SD card' then select 'choose zip file'.

6. Select the 'downloads' folder and then select the zip file you want.

7. You are then given the opportunity to confirm or backout. When you confirm, the installation begins immediately and takes several minutes.

8. Once intallation is complete, the install menu reappears. Press the hardware back button to get back to main menu, and select the reboot now option. The first boot of a new ROM takes quite a bit longer than normal, so give it a few minutes.

ROMs available include

Modaco R8

Corvus 5 (But you need to install the SP1 update as well)

Cyanogenmod 7 (Gingerbread)

Vegacomb (Beta Honeycomb)

As a matter of preference, I'd like all forums to offer that facility.

I don't use Skype, but I can install it on my Vega (with the modded stock ROM, Corvus5, and SP1).

and, you're welcome

Hi

I don't think it will void the warranty as they released the source code for the Vega and have

also pointed to Paul at MoDaCo on the Vega website. Which I think means that they sanction

modding.

And the first thing they will do if you have a problem, is to flash the latest stock ROM onto your Vega and overwrite whichever ROM was there! B)

wouldn't worry too much about warranty for changing the rom as the warranty is a hardware warranty and so any changes to software will not affect that as long as you can put it back to factory rom as thats what they will do there testing with.

Hi Jackrz.

As an alternative, you could try following the instructions at myadventvega but install the modded stock ROM instead .

Then you download the Custom ROM of your choice to your Vega and use CWM to install it.

You should not select "USB Serial Bus Controllers", nothing to do with the Vega and searching for an INF is correct. The INF is the driver installation information file.

Search for YAUDIG and follow that, AUDI does the same thing automagically.
