Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Coudn't wait any longer, caved in and with Vegamcomb running so well, thought why not. Got the last of three at my local pc world. This will at the very least be a great stop gap until the Tegra3 tablets become affordable. First timpressions are good, Flash working nicey out the box across a few streaming sites, only niggle is i seems a litle rattley, especially round the corners and top right, a firm tap gives a little buzz of vibration and its slightly creaky round the edges. Google search widget seems a little unresponsive too. nothing major though, for uder £200 this is a bargain. Anyway, rightly or wrongly, I'm kicking off with Vegacomb, never tinkered witha tablet before so heres goes!
Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Cheers, but fell at first hurdle! Ha ha ha. Using a work laptop, and can't install audi, no admin permissions, is there a way i can still install VC without having admin rights?

Newbe5 wants you to install the modded stock ROM to set the partitions for vegacomb. You can then download vegacomb.zip directly to your vega and install it using the ROM manager app. Don't forget to backup your apps.

Guest Unipete Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) Cheers, but fell at first hurdle! Ha ha ha. Using a work laptop, and can't install audi, no admin permissions, is there a way i can still install VC without having admin rights? Can you not right click as per this from Simonta? You should be able to download it to your lappy and then right click to run Audi. Setup Download from my Dropbox and unzip. http://dl.dropbox.co...375731/audi.zip Alternative link to Megaupload. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F8G4172S Run the tool by right clicking and selecting "Run as administrator". The first time you run it, it will ask for permission to download some files from Microsoft. You should say "Yes". Edited July 24, 2011 by Unipete
Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) well i have admin rights now, but hell, that responsiveness I mentioned has gone mental. I've rebooted a few times but its the same, completely unusable. After a while you can unlock it, just, then the real fun starts. I haven't tried installing anything yet. All i did do was download the modded stock rom directly to the vega, but deleted it in the file manager Damnit, looks like this will be going back tomorrow ;( EDIT: After latest reboot, couldn't unlock at all Edited July 24, 2011 by Bunjit
Guest lesd Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) OK, thanks. Modded stock downloaded, now what? Recovery mode? Nothing ahs been installe don tis so far, just a bit of surfing Sorry, I've not explained that well for you. Download the modded stock ROM to your PC. Then install it as though you were installing the Advent vega 1.10 update from the download section of www.myadventvega.co.uk. The instructions are on the same site. You need the FULL software update manual. It's worth reading because it shows you how to unbrick your Vega. Edited July 24, 2011 by lesd
Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 The Vegas completely frozen now anyway on the boot up screen, won't unlock.
Guest lesd Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 The Vegas completely frozen now anyway on the boot up screen, won't unlock. Follow the instructions in my last post (edited at 5.04) to unfreeze your Vega.
Guest Unipete Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 The Vegas completely frozen now anyway on the boot up screen, won't unlock. The vega is unbrickable. You'll always be able to get into recovery to sort it out. Take a deep breath and do not panic. The first boot up can take ages, just let it finish!
Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) Follow the instructions in my last post (edited at 5.04) to unfreeze your Vega. Oh Oh... OK, did that, restarted Vega, but screen frozen/going mental on 'select your language' could i be the first person to brick this thing? Edited July 24, 2011 by Bunjit

Not a chance on the bricking element, (unless you've cemented it in a wall!! Just use the process to get into recovery and flash the stock rom from http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ Then start again. This sometimes takes a few attempts so keep going.

OK, did that, restarted Vega, but screen frozen/going mental on 'select your language' could i be the first person to brick this thing? Just an idea about screen problem, have you got you power supply plugged in, as a common fault with the vega is screen is nearly unusable with the psu plugged in, take it out and see if the screen is the same, if so, i'd say it's faulty...

This sometimes takes a few attempts so keep going. that's my fourth attempt at the stock rom, language screen loads upside down, then I can't select anything, it's scrolling up and down like a yo yo the fact it should need flashing anyway after 2 hrs of use is worrying, maybe a hardware problem?

Good idea but I had the problem before i plugged it in. Just tested it and it's the same. It looks like its successfully flashed, but its the same problem each time - the screens knackered. Hmmmm my experiment with the tablet world has not gone well

I think this is your problem, maybe it's been dropped or bumped when in transit, or it's a crap refurbished vega to look like a new one... Never the less, my vega has non of the problems you state above...

Hmmmm my experiment with the tablet world has not gone well Well, it's not bricked, but if the language selection screen is upside down with the camera on top, and scrolling wrong, then you probably have a hardware fault and should get it replaced. Sorry to hear about this, you seemed to be very keen to get stuck in :( . Still, it's only twelve and a half hours until PC World opens :)
Guest Bunjit Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Yeh, tried flashing multiple times but same crazy screen issues every time. Thanks alll for your help anyway. Its boxed up now, going back asap. Not sure I'll bother with another, especially from the same batch -it's all been a bit of an antimiclimax :(

Would-be Vega buyers who read this topic please make note of this persons experience and remember it takes time and patience to get the machine tailored to the way you want it but in the end it's worth it !! If you have neither the time or the patience then don't even consider buying a Vega honestly

If you have neither the time or the patience then don't even consider buying a Vega honestly  If you read the thread, my issues are nothing to do with not having patience or experience in tailoring the tablet - they occured before any modding took place at all, it never got that far  All the time and patience in the world isn't going to fix a hardware issue with the screen, something I spotted out the box - doesn't fill me with confidence in getting another. So if you want a helpful conclusion to the thread, the tip to would be Vega buyers would be to check their screens thoroughly in store. .....and to read posts
