Guest SparkRemarkable Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 I'm trying to make a decision between Samsung Galaxy Ace or Orange San Francisco! Surprisingly, both sport the ARM 11 processor, Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset alongside Adreno 200 GPU, but Ace has 800 MHz of processor speed and SF has 600 MHz ? Could this be because of the stock Rom or the kernel ? Or is it that the ARM family is the same, but the architecture is different (ARMv6, ARMv7 etc)? Any help on this would be more than appreciated !!
Guest Pelemane Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) Ace has MSM7227 Turbo and Blade has only MSM7227. They are both ARMv6. It's not a kernel or ROM thing. Aces display is poor compared to Blades (320×480 px vs. 480×800 px). I would buy Blade if I had to choose from those two. edit: If I was you, I would buy ZTE Skate when it comes. Guest Maxsas360 Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) Dont worry. Skate will be just an "inflated" Blade. Cpu will be slow, but the screen will be massive. I think there won't be enough juice to power it Edited July 25, 2011 by Maxsas360
Guest popoyaya Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Also, it looks like the Skate will be double the price of the Blade, so not worth it.

Guest Jekle Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I have got a Galaxy Ace Factory Unlocked on T-Mobile 24 Contract. The screen is not a let down you have to look at it to actually give a opinion. Also uses Samsung's Clear Display. Making text easier to read even on a HVGA Device. And It also sports Gorilla Glass. And Have a anti-smear coating like the iPhone, instead of Plastic on the Blade.

Well Blade will run Angry Birds flawlessly, but the Skate will have to get some OC treatment

Resolution is only thing that matters and it's same in Blade and Skate. And Skate has MSM8255 according to this video. (same processor is in Desire HD etc.) edit: Deep links doesn't work anymore here :( look at 2:45-> Edited July 26, 2011 by Pelemane

ACE is also a very good choice but it needs a custom rom or the Gingerbread upgrade which is available in more and more locations. My wife uses Ace and she likes very much. Battery life with new Gingerbread will be 2-3 days minimum. Display is excellent (except the resolution, but for everyday use it is OK) and glass surface is top quality. The only thing I want to make clear is that Blade has no plastic display... it IS glass.

They both have 480x800px resolution. So the same amount of calculations (assuming they have the same bit-depth) The larger screen will only consume more battery. Also, I thought that the Huawei Ideos X5 was supposed to be the better alternative the skate, or have I missed something? Edited July 26, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord

The Coating I mean. As in Gorilla "Glass" is a Glass coating. the blade has a plastic coating. And CM7 Nightlies are coming very soon for the Ace. Edited July 26, 2011 by Jekle

There is a video about a broken screen but working Blade on youtube and seeing the damage it MUST be glass... plastic can not have that kind of ruptures.
