Guest bambax Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 That is so so true!!!!! Gingerbread Update via OTA or Download: T-Mobile’s LG G2x owners pay attention!... http://getandroidstu...+and+Reviews%29
Guest Stevvie Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I suppose it was just easier to try it out on G2X owners as they are kinda linked to only 1 carrier.
Guest aaww Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I suppose it was just easier to try it out on G2X owners as they are kinda linked to only 1 carrier. yep that is exactly why. Someone has to test it. Hopefully they have upgraded the kernel as well.
Guest thedicemaster Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 gingerbread for G2X is easier to make. not only because of only 1 carrier, but also because it is more vanilla android. the O2X has several custom apps, and modifications, that need to be ported as well.
Guest mparack Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I'd rather have a robust version of GB in September than a bug-ridden one now but then I've been lucky and dont suffer from BSODs or lag. My only issue was with the battery drain and rooting and freezing some bloatware has done the trick for me.
Guest gaww1 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 The baseband WAS updated by the GB G2X update. However, TMo has pulled back the OTA for some reason, and the LG Upgrader app has bricked several phones - including mine. Some were recovered with the kdx installation tool, but many were not. We do not have a tool like Paul's "disaster recovery" ROM installer, so many are not recoverable and have been exchanged. I came out OK with that, as i got a replacement with 2.3.3 on it. Other then the baseband, the ROM is not impressive - and I went back to custom 2.3.5 ROM after reloading CMW and rerooting. If LG rolls out O2X GB updates with their LG Upgrader tool (not OTA), be very careful - it likes bricking phones.
Guest abwyatt Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) Sounds like an utter disaster! I think I am going to wait for Paul to package an official gingerbread release into an MCR when it does come for the O2X rather than trust an LG OTA or the LG Updater which I already threw away after just one painful use off. Smart man. i came out of the LG Updater hell only because TMo US supplied me with two replacements. The second one was new and came with 2.3.3 and new July baseband already on it. I also will never go near their Updater tool again. Note - there has been some chatter that LG announced they will be rolling out an OTA updater system latter this year in Asia and Europe (not N. America). Still don't know if I would trust it.
