Guest secretspartan Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I've had 2 zte blades in the last year, the 2nd one because the first one went for a wash in the sink lol my current one hasnt been charging properly for a while, its a loose connection or something because i've tried several different chargers and a new battery, now the red light wont come on at all to say its charging so i'm gonna say its dead. my question is, is it worth me buying another one after all this time? or is there a better alternative a year later? or should i save up and get a higher priced phone? i mean i love my little android phone and everything it can do, it was my first android phone and i had fun amazing my friends by controlling my pc, streaming bbciplayer while riding a bus and generally just being awesome :D i've also upgraded it to 2.3 which was alot of fun too :) any help gratefully recieved :)
Guest Atomix86 Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Honestly? No. There are several phones you can get for almost the same price now, including another one from ZTE called the Skate (800mhz cpu, 512mb RAM, huge 4.3" screen). Definitely shop around first ;).
Guest targetbsp Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Surely your second one could just be returned under warranty?
Guest Laccnow Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I'd save up if I were you. The blade I currently own is my first smartphone/android and I pretty much like it. But you know, everytime I look at my friends' phones (desire, galaxy s, etc) I think about my blade and wish it was just a bit better. I'm not about to sell my Blade anyway, I guess I'm just gonna keep it until it dies, since it does the everyday job :)
Guest appolus Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 imo u can find samsung galaxy s cheap these days...go for it..i will buy an sgs soon and dump the blade
Guest targetbsp Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) Except for the touch sensitive buttons (which rock!), me and my SGS owning friend* prefer the Blade to be honest. The messed up file system they insisted on using makes the SGS take an absolute age to start any apps. And my friends phone is from the batch with the screwed up secondary boot loader so no working recovery to risk applying a lagfix. :( It's not so much that he thinks the Blade is a better phone - just better value. He'd rather have the Blade and the money difference than the SGS. And he gets paid a lot! Which brings me to my next point: as for saving up for something more expensive, it depends on your own views really. I cannot bring myself to spend more than what the Blade costs on a phone - no matter how much money I have, and no matter how much I love Android (which is a lot, as you can tell from my post count!). My brain can't cope with justifying a multi-hundred pound phone! I blame it on being northern. As for there being better phones for the same money. What models are we thinking of? Most phones around this price seem to have low res screens? The Skate is I guess an option but it's still a fair bit more than the £85 you can get a Blade for if you know an orange PAYG customer - unless they do a similar offer on it. Guest secretspartan Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) thanks for all the reply's people, i'll definatly give it some serious thought, i do understand the feeling of wanting that slightly better camera or flash capability lol in reply to targetbsp: well i bought my second one from (insert cheapest uk based website selling the phone here) and i figured it would be a serious hassle to go through the process of sending it back, but i'll look into that too thanks. Both take a couple of minutes each. Edited July 27, 2011 by Atomix86

Guest irishpancake Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 No matter where you bought your Blade, in UK or EU, you have rights as a consumer. In fact, online you prolly got more rights. You should pursue this, IMHO. As for Skate, ZTE may have missed the boat there. Under-powered and overpriced. Check out Huawei U8800. http://android.modaco.com/forum/514-huawei-u8800-ideos-x5-u8800modacocom/
Guest secretspartan Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I've done some research and i can get a wall battery charger for £10 from ebay with an extra battery included and tbh if i'd realised that was an option i'd have done that already, i love my san fran and everything it can do, i want to hold onto it as long as i can :)
Guest lukesan Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Well to be honest. I bought a ZTE Blade because my HTC was faulty. When I received a brandnew Desire HD I was able to compare it. Actually I have them both in front of me now. It is frightening to say that the ZTE beats down the multiple times more expensive Desire HD. GPS on the blade is much more sensitive. Wifi on the blade shows at least 10dB better signals and more AP's. Lets not even mention the speaker on the ZTE. The only thing that the ZTE lacks is the size of the screen (or maybe not) and the faster cpu (but I don't play games) Edited July 29, 2011 by lukesan
Guest targetbsp Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) I'm glad it's not just my SGS owning friend and I questioning high end phones vs the Blade then. :D And I *am* a gamer. I have 37, mostly paid, games on this thing. :P Edited July 29, 2011 by targetbsp

The best programs to use are 'wifi analyser' and 'gps status.
Guest Robert Sydbrink Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) Its all about money. Here in sweden there is no phone that come close to be as good as the blade for that price. If you want to step up just a little its atleast double the price here. If you can save up the cash i have to say the SGS2 is just so sweet. But then, it costs 5 times the blade here. But the blade is still a pretty good phone. Edited July 30, 2011 by Robert Sydbrink
Guest Schwinni Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I don't know where you all come from and if the prices in your country differ a lot, but here in Germany you get the LG Optimus Speed (P990) without any brandings, locks or contracts for 318 EUR (=279 GBP). That price is ridiculously low when regarding that it is one of the dual core phones. It is also already supported by CM7: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X

I bought my Blade from eBay for £66, this is after they were selling the Blade direct and brand new from Orange as the San Francisco for £74.99. Dual core or not, that Optimus Speed would be nearly 400% more. Blade is special for the mid-low end of VFM aka Value For Money.
Guest Schwinni Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Sorry, I totally forget to mention the UK - Germany price relation. I got my Blade when it was sold for 99 GBP, which is about 120 EUR. The Blade now is sold here in Germany - for 169 EUR!!!! Compared to these prices, the 318 EUR for the P990 is really low.
