Unresponsive screen but only on the left hand side (!)

Hi,

The screen on my Blade has all of a sudden gone unresponsive but only on the left hand side. I've had the phone 6 months but it's only had very light use. The only thing I can think of that's different with it is that I changed networks to GiffGaff a week or two ago but I'm guessing that shouldn't make any difference...

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi psg8802, that sounds like a faulty touch screen panel/connector/something hardware related. Get this test app from the Marketplace to test it.

Link to app.

You are well within 12 months so you can get it fixed or replaced if my suspicions are correct.

I hope this helps. Anil.

I had issues with the touch screen and hardware buttons after a slightly bad flash so try reflashing first then if it persists send it in for a repair or replacement.

Thanks guys.

Rather annoyingly, I haven't been able to login to Marketplace since I installed custom ROM so cannot download and install the touchscreen checker.

The buttons at the bottom of the phone are fully operational and oddly I can swipe the unlock (which is on the left hand side of the screen) - it's just the icons on the left hand side of the screen on the 'desktop' that don't seem to want to work. From my limited knowledge, all this seems to suggest that it might be software related so I might just wipe the whole thing and start again, although flashing and installing custom ROM first time around was a bit of hassle.

Incidentally, is the 12-month warranty still valid even though the phone has been de-Oranged?

Wait are you on cm7?

How would I find that out?

It was 6 months ago and I cannot remember - is there anywhere on the phone I can check?

Menu>Settings>About phone

The second item from the bottom will tell you what you're running.

This problem now also exists around the perimeter of the phone screen generally.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm thinking about taking it back - is the phone's warranty void now that I changed the ROM? Could I re-install the original Orange ROM?

Hi psg8802, if you've had the phone less than one year it's best to take it back. Technically your warranty is void, but if you flash back the original ROM ORANGE will never know. You can find the original ROM at the root of this forum, or through the premium version of ROM manager. Please bear in mind that the stock ROM's are Gen1, so if you have updated to Gen2, you will need to revert back.

Anil.

Thanks Anil.

I tried factory resetting the phone to see whether that made any difference but it doesn't look like it has. However, it has allowed me to login into Marketplace (I think I must have first logged in last time through WiFi rather than 3G) and download that screen tester app you previously suggested. It appears that two squares down either side of the screen are not picking anything up so I guess it's a reload of the Orange ROM and get a replacement.
