Stream Live TV from a PC

I've had a good search through the forum and there are lots of references for remotely accessing a PC from the Vega, but I'm not sure if some or all of these would allow me to stream live TV from a USB Freeview tuner connected to my PC through a remote WiFi connection (picture and sound).

There are lots of threads on the likes of Gmote, Orb Live, Teamviewer, Splashtop, 2X, Xtralogic etc, but has anyone been successful in using any of these to stream/ control a TV tuner on a remote PC?

I primarily want to do this to watch the Rugby World Cup while on holiday in Canada and the US in October. I know that ITV are intending to show live games on their website, but presumably my access will be blocked from outside of the UK and I'm not convinced that a proxy server will work/ be reliable (unless people can tell me otherwise).

The other option of course is a Slingbox connected to my cable box, but if I can find a solution that works with the Vega and an app (particularly a free one), then it will be another one to add to the list of the brilliant things that the Vega can do!

Quite a few questions there but I think I can answer most as I have a Slingbox already and watch TV on my PC using a Hauppauge WinTV card as well.

If you read my thread on the Splashtop app you know that it will connect from the Vega to the PC over wi-fi or over the internet (with configuration of the router). I have tested the former not the latter. When using Splashtop locally I can view on the Vega the video being received by the WinTV card on my PC and displayed using the WinTV2000 application and it is very impressive and I'd go so far to say it is better than watching my Slingbox from the PC or Vega.

The downside is you'd have to leave your PC turned on and logged in whilst you are away on holiday whereas the Slingbox is a standalone device but it has limitations in that it does not always support remote channel changing on some Freeview boxes unless you teach it from the original remote control.

You will need to test out which combination works best for you but I'd say the Vega with a desktop client (Teamviewer, Splashtop, etc) and PC running a TV application on Freeview will be your cheapest option but you might need to phone a friend in Canada/USA to get them to test as well to make sure no copyright protection interferes with the final configuration. ;)
