Guest Ralph Martin Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) The ZTE Libra is now available for pre-order on Amazon at £180. http://www.amazon.co...11860332&sr=8-1 I guess this tells us just how much Orange has been subsidising the Blade... This item is due to be released on September 10, 2011. Edited July 28, 2011 by Ralph Martin

Looking at the technical details on that Amazon link it appears they have listed the spec for the good old Blade. 3.5" screen 3.0 Mp Camera 600 Mhz processor. 2.2 Android Edited July 29, 2011 by Skip Tracer
Guest targetbsp Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Looking at the technical details on that Amazon link it appears they have listed the spec for the good old Blade. That's because it is a Blade. That's the point of this post. :D Comparing the unsubsidised price of it vs the orange subsidised price.
Guest yellowperil Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 You can buy the ZTE Blade in Greece without a contract for 140 euros (thats what I did). Unbranded and unlocked.... You need to shop around though. To buy it from a carrier (WIND) you have to spend 170 or get it free (I think) with a 30 euro a month contract... Personally I would buy the unbranded and unlocked use with a PAYG phone and spend 10 euros a month on a card, and get 200mb data. :) But I can agree this is a bit of a ripoff....

I thought, wrongly as you have pointed out that link was supposed to be for theOrange Monte Carlo / Skate as I was expecting this to hit the general market place soon. Did wonder why it was in the OSF/Blade forum.

That's the opposite way around to the UK. Branded ones are always cheaper here because the providers figure they'll get you to spend more money with them on calls so they subsidise the initial phone cost.
Guest ThermalDroid Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Libra is nicer than the blade IMHO but if you have a blade don't bother.
Guest ablackswan Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 it's a little bit better blade and more expensive but i thought the libra would be in 2.3?
Guest Chocolate Columbo Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 it's a little bit better blade and more expensive but i thought the libra would be in 2.3? I can't even find the differences/improvements in the Libra. Clearly they won't justify the price difference... but for the purpose of the thread and my interest; what are they?
Guest Ron=) Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I can't even find the differences/improvements in the Libra. Clearly they won't justify the price difference... but for the purpose of the thread and my interest; what are they? There are no hardware differences. A libra is simply a Blade with a different cover. Infact look at a picture of a libra and notice how all of the imputs, the camera, the speaker hole etc. on the libra are in the same place as on the blade! There are software differrences though - the Libra is stock Gen 2 and comes with android 2.3.4 as stock. But that dosnt matter as the blade can just be upated to the same software.
Guest crblues Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Funny... I have one just like it. It's called the Sapo A5 and it is sold by Tmn in Portugal since last year... lol :lol::D I cost's 99€ online in Portugal. And 119€ in physical stores.
Guest m_w_clarke Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Actually the blade and Libra are different. The blade has a 3mp camera by default and the Libra has 5. A pointed out above, the software is stock 2.3 but that makes no difference on this forum! There is a thread about the differences if you search.
Guest Ralph Martin Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 The Libra advertised on Amazon only has 256MB of RAM, too, against the Blade's 512MB.
Guest mullen666 Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 this thread really bugs me the libra is the blade
Guest Ralph Martin Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) the libra is the blade Sure, but in actuality, there are various hardware / software variants of the device. Different cameras, GEN1 / GEN2 issues, different Android versions, etc. The original point of the thread was to show how much Orange are subsidising the product (in the UK market). Slightly different specifications may also affect the price a bit. Edited August 3, 2011 by Ralph Martin
Guest targetbsp Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 We know don't we? That's the point of the price comparison that this thread is about. Well some of us know. :D There are difference but they're more a revision of the same phone than a different phone.
