Vega wont boot

Hi, i need some help please, i checked the "how to" thread for booting into recovery but the link must be broken as it sends me to a file hosting website?

i was using the modaco custom rom but i reverted to my updated stock rom because it kept freezing with the mcr. picked it up and switched it on and all i get is a backlit

screen?

from reading through various posts i figured out i need to connect the power supply and connect to my PC, i got it into recovery (black screen) and my device manager

shows "NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices". BUT? i have no idea how to proceed from here? i have the clockwork recovery mod instaled and a backup image is

saved on my memory card but i have no idea how to restore it and could really use some help, thanks.

you need to re flash stock rom by the sounds of it, go to myadventvega website and follow all instructions exactly. this will get you back up to a stock vega then re install cwm and restore your back up

Hi

You've got the USB drivers installed OK which is the hardest part for most people. If I were you, I'd flash the stock ROM from myadventvega just by running the EXE, install clockworkmod using the easy installer on this forum or at XDA devs then use clockwork to reinstall your backup.

To use the clockworkmod installer, you'll need to have the ADB drivers installed - AUDI will help you to do this.

Cheers

I already have clockwork recovery mod instaled on the vega (used it to instal the MCR) and i have a backup image that i can restore, is it a case of running the .exe of the stock rom from my PC via a command prompt?

If you have clockwork, just restore from there. No need to flash anything.

Stupid question.... when my vega wouldn't fire up (backlit screen only) i have connected power supply and USB to my PC and entered recovery mode (can see recovery in the dev manager).

is my Vega supposed to be lit up or displaying something on it's screen because mine is blank and appears shutdown. Only thing going on is the blue power LED. Can't for the life of me figure out how i am supposed to access

clockwork and am worried i have the 1st bricked Vega ....

Just to summarise:

1 You have a backup on your SD card

2 You can't boot up but are able to get to recovery

Then as already said, your only option is to reflash back to the stock ROM by running the EXE from your PC while you are in recovery mode. This however will remove CWM from your Vega because it is not standard.

After flashing stock, you can then reinstall CWM and restore your backup.

Alternatively, use Newbe5's modded ROM which has CWM built in at

This however has slightly changed partition sizes, which if your backup had a lot of data in it, might not match up (your partition data might be greater than the space now allowed)

Hope this helps

mike you cant brick the vega but you can get it stuck at the point you are now and the only way out is to reflash stock rom as said in first reply. you are savvy enough to have done the mcr so this will be a breeze and then you are back up and running, you wont lose any info off your sd card so your backups etc are safe, however there is no easy way round this first step ... sorry :(

are you saying it's as simple as double clicking the "softwareImage_v1.10_Vega_Final.exe" file i downloaded from myadventvega.co.uk while in recovery mode?

i already tried that and all i got was a command prompt screen telling me "NVFlash started" and nothing else happens. If this is not the right way to do it then please please

explain how because what little hair i have left is in serious danger lol

thanks :)

Don't worry, you do not have a bricked Vega. What you have to understand is that there are two "recovery" modes. It appears from your post that you are in the "Advent" recovery mode which is what you use to flash a complete new ROM. In this mode the Vega's screen is blank. The part of the system that contains the code to do this is protected and nothing you do by way of flashing can damage it. This is why (apart from a hardware fault) you can always get back to Advent recovery and flash a stock ROM; this is what makes the Vega "unbrickable".

The second recovery mode is the clockworkmod recovery mode. You cannot (AFAIK) access this from the PC. So to restore a clockworkmod backup you first need a working system containing clockworkmod and a recovery app. If you don't already have them you should try VegaTools (and do look at all the tabs) and AUDI.

thanks for explaining it, i have managed to get it restored back to stock. I was running the stock exe as instructed and it was connected to the PC in recovery mode but nothing was happening, was getting to the NV Flash bit and hanging.

i decided to disconnect from the PC and shut down the Vega for a minute then re connected and entered recovery mode. i ran the EXE again and this time it worked and instaled :)

Thank you all for your help and patience, very much apreciated ;)
