Guest shadieb Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Up until today, my internet has worked flawlessly on my SPV. Today however, when I try to connect to a web page it just says dialling and never gets any further? I've tried following the fixes on the Born Sloppy site, but it still isn't working :) I've never connected my phone to the net using the cradle, but I thought the Born sloppy fixes might help. The phone is working okay for making calls and was working okay for the net up until yesterday. I'm thinking of doing a hard reset and setting the phone back to factory default. Anybody got any tips on how to save my contacts list etc. I haven't got a spare SD card other then the 8mb that came with it and a 128meg one I have loaded with music, games etc. I could save all my stuff off the 128mb card to my PC though if it would help. Anybody got any ideas? Cheers.
Guest Will Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 The following has just happened to me, after gprs seemed to die. It's a personal view: alert I had these problems and OCS spent about 30 minutes telling me : a: my transmitter was down. b: my phone was broken. c: I did not have gprs installed d: sending me an update (3 times) and the subsequental messages that have locked my phone at random times. e: working on a nokia now. (strange that gprs works fine on here). Will
Guest wideawake Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I had a problem yesterday. GPRS was not working as a IrDa modem, I did everythng hard reset. I have just upgarded my pc, so even re-installed operating system on PC etc etc. Nothing. Today everything works. No modifications. My advice, wait awhile.....
Guest Will Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 sorry for my rant. yes i would wait.. Will
Guest xanadu Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 When GPRS stops working, I just turn off the the SPV. Remove the battery for 10 seconds. Replace battery, turn on and all works again :) Presumably you have the big 'G' at the top centre of the display ? If this is not present then you have no GPRS coverage.
Guest shadieb Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Thanks for all the replies guys... I do have the G on the display above the homepage, and it shifts across to the right hand side where my signal strength is shown when trying to connect, but it just continuously says dialling. I have also tried turning the phone on/off and pulling battery etc. but to no avail. Oh well!!! Will have to go with the wait awhile suggestion :) Cheers again guys.
Guest Treadsoftly Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Orange GPRS has been erratic over the last few days according to other mobile oriented forums. It might be a local blip in coverage. Will probably right itself soon. But intensely annoying I know!
Guest HelloDave Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 The SPV is very fussy about connecting via GPRS - sometimes IE will just sit there "dialing" until you get fed up. I normally just do a soft reset which works 9 times out of 10, though I think just turning the radio off and on worked for me once. If it doesn't work after a reboot then it's probably a network problem - I had problems getting an MMS yesterday, but moved to a different location and was able to download it fine.
Guest xanadu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Shadieb... Is your GPRS working now ? Do you live in Nottingham by any chance ?
Guest Thurstan Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Orange do sometimes have GPRS outage. Maybe that's been the problem?
Guest shadieb Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Still not working and into another day :) Hope its sorted soon. Cheers.
Guest xanadu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Shadieb, I know for a fact that there are no GPRS problems on the Orange network at the moment.
Guest shadieb Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Woooooooo Hooooooo!!!!! Just done as you suggested in another thread Xanadu. I rang 156, spoke to a very helpful gentleman called Steve, who told me a mast had gone down in my area on the 12th and I was still logged on to it. Got it sorted and up and running in no time. He even called me back :) He couldn't have been more helpful (a credit to Orange) and when I asked why the phone seemed to be running slow, he specifically mentioned a new update due anytime to speed the phone up. Can't wait now ;) Thanks again..
