Well after being suprised by my partner with a new Asus transformer yesterday i am going to be moving on from this forum but i just could not move without saying a massive thank you to all of those who have worked and still work so very hard to bring us new updates, roms and software that has made the vega a machine to be proud of.

And also to the other vega owners who are always ready to help a fellow vega user with hints and tips has made owning and using my vega a real pleasure. I am going to miss the old girl once i sell her as you cant beat the vega on value and spec.

Thanks again.

Jason.

The Transformer is an amazing bit of kit, I've had mine for a few months now and I absolutely love it. The hardware is flawless, native 3.2 rules and the keyboard dock REALLY adds that extra *something*. Couldn't recommend it enough if you are in the market for a new tab, especially one to replace a net-book as the missus will probably appreciate the keyboard a lot (mine does!).

I just love the Vega, I can't leave it alone :P The TF is always there ready to be used, as my Vega is usually in a non-functional test state :P

Newbe5, reading those comments regarding the Vega makes us lot very happy!! I know I'm not alone in being extremely appreciative of all you do for us as it would be easy for you to just concentrate on your TF! I scan twitter on a daily basis for your tweets regarding VegaComb (in a non stalker like way I should add!)

Well had my Transformer for a couple of weeks now and i feel ready to pass a few comments about how this tablet performs compared to my vega.

Got to say the first things that hits you with the asus is the screen and its viewing angles what a difference. This really comes into its own when watching back HD content.

Now its not all doom and gloom on the vega, if you change the density of the vega to between 120 - 140 and hit that viewing sweet spot then watching HQ content can be a real pleasure.

I got my Asus with a keyboard dock which does add to the tablet. I do tend to be long winded when posting on forums and having a keyboard does help with this and on top of that it tops up the tablet battery. But its not something i use all the time as it adds bulk both in terms of weight and size and kind of defeats the object of the tablet. But both onscreen and dock keyboard suffer from terrible input lag when using the stock browser in both HC 3.1 and 3.2 which is something i have never had on the vega be it with on screen keyboard or wired keyboard via offical dock. The Vega is helped in my experience by replacing the stock keyboard and in my case i used the Hackers keyboard which is a free download via the market place. This keyboard has a top row of numbers and four way cursor keys which improves typing on the Vega no end.

Sound wise the two are more or less even on this score and i have been happy with both in most conditions.

Flash play back is an odd one really. On the vega with the Optimized version of Flash 10.1 in my case produced great results now matter what the website and i never had any reason to complain. But the Transformer can be a bit of an odd ball when it comes to flash.

The HD videos via the Youtube app are spot on with perfect picture quality and no sync issues at all, but when viewed via the stock browser both the quality of the sound and picture at times can be far worse than the Vega which is odd given the differnce of system ram and screen technology. Also another odd thing can be found via the videos on revision3com. If you watch the main website based video stream the picture can seem a little suttery at times not enough to spoil the watching of program but enough to be noticed. But if you hit the download link you can stream the HD version via stock video player without a hitch. This leads me to think that Adobe and Asus have not yet got their relevent software and hardware woking in harmony but this should be just a matter of time before this small glitch gets sorted. But some of my gaming sites such as thesixthaxis.com show and play videos with out any problems so its very nearly there but for now not quite as good as the Vega but use able all the same.

On the gaming side the Tegra 2 chipset just as it does on the Vega plays games really well but the extra ram of the asus does show through as the games run still run full tilt with all the graphics turned right up. Also the accelerometers work spot on on the Asus without any tweaking extra software or the use of a new Rom which does make a life a lot easier.

The biggest thing that the Vega has going for it the massive modding commumity and the friendly users all willing to help each other out. Its a lot quiter on the Transformer side, not sure why but they maybe down to the fact it seems not to lend itself to modding so much compared with the vega.

After owning both what would i do if a had my time again. Well i think my knowledge of both tablets and Android would a lot poorer without all the things i learnt from owning and using the Vega but after using the transformer and its lovely screen now for a while i don't think i would want to go back to the Vega but for £200 the vega is still unbeatable for value for money and anything else such as the Transformer is something that has to be thought about a lot harder as you need to weigh up how much extra the screen is worth to you.

Well thats my view on things and i hope it helps if others are thinking of looking at a new tablet.

Thanks for taking the time to come back and let us know and it is helpful. I'll be upgrading (actually, I'll get another one ;)) and I'm currently tracking the Transformer and the Galaxy 10.1. The Galaxy seems to have it for now, it beats the iPad2 in every area plus, Apple are desperately trying to sue the Galaxy out of existence so even stronger reason to get one :) That said, I would find the keyboard dock useful as I could then ditch my laptop in a lot of situations and the reduced bulk and weight would be a big plus for me.

Thanks again.

Cheers

Mate glad to be able to post my findings.

Made a small breakthrough with flash by using an older version still 10.3 but ending in .22 seems to work with the transformer.

Had another play with my vega yesterday as i set it up for a work mate who brought it and got to say that even on stock rom android 2.2 is very snappy indeed and the screen touch response on the vega is very good, almost having second thoughts about letting him have it now.

Good luck with Vegacomb and i just can't help keeping an eye on this forum section even though todays the day my vega goes to its new home.

I am glad that the Asus is working well for you. Take a look at my recent post about 3.2 Vegacomb that Newbe5 is working on. You are going just when it is getting really juicy!

Pop in to the forum and say hello whenever you get a chance, you're always welcome! :-)
