Dear experts at Modaco,

I attempted to upgrade from v1.5 to v2.1 today using U8220 V100R001C104B825 downloaded from http://wiki.modaco.c..._Firmware_U8220. During the upgrade, it always stop when step 2 (installation) was~90% done. I couldn't re-start my phone as it always stop at the PCCW (phone service provider) screen. Removing and re-copying "dload" to the SD card wouldn't help (stops at exactly the same point). I tried to go back to v1.5 using the 1.5 PCCW rom but still wouldn't work. It wouldn't even start the unpacking stage and says "update failed" right away in Software Update mode.

Below are the info I got from various screens:

Fastboot mode

reboot system now

wipe data/factory reset

wipe cache partition
Note: This must sound insanely stupid - I have pushed all of the eight buttons (plus the touchscreen) but still have no clue where it refers to by "click to select" sd_update.log in /dload

dload_sd_ram_data_proc->(retry >= DLOAD_RETRY) failed!

I understand all failures are unique to some extend... Please advise if the above detail is sufficient to tell what's wrong and anything I can try to get it work again. I am ok with using 1.5 or 2.1 (as long as it works).

Great thanks in advance!

After spending couple more hours, I tried to connect to computer in ADB / FastBoot but neither work. Possible issues:

1. I did not enable ADB in settings before the phone is dead

2. Only "ADB interface" is found in device manager and it is up-to-date (from http://android.modac...xp/page__st__40) No portable device, modem and disk drives drivers that are relevant.

Hmm... any clue? I found from some source that if I can connect then I can get 100% installation. Not sure if that would work.

You need to push down on the trackball to select rather than on one of the buttons. After a ROM upgrade the phone usually won't boot properly if you don't do a wipe data, sometimes wipe cache is needed too.

Adb will not work in recovery, it needs android running! You need to restart it in fastboot mode, connect the USB cable, than flash the desired ROM / Recovery image. If that doesn't work, please post what fastboot says when you try to use it!
