Guest PeterPandroid Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 My Blade's power switch has mostly expired amd takes a lot of pressing to get the phone to wake-up. Orange are delivering a replacement Blade (no OLED :() tomorrow but they need to take away the old phone so I have to work out an app issue quickly. Can I use something like Titanium to copy my paid apps to, perhaps the sd Card, so I can transfer them to my replacement phone? Is there another way? Or are purchased apps inextricably linked to a specific phone's hardware?
Guest Atomix86 Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 They are linked to the Google account, so all you have to do is log in to it on your new phone and re-download them.

All sounds good. So to clarify, for instance, I have PowerAmp and another app which arrived on purchase called PowerAmpUnlocker. You're suggesting that on re-downloading PowerAmp the seperate unlocker app will be automatically downloaded? Also, are there steps I should take to wipe the phone's Google account credentials before I return it? Lastly, though not essential, it would be nice to copy across my SMS messages, notepad items and such like,. Is this possible?
Guest flshg Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Usually your sms app will have some backup option, otherwise there are apps in the market which will back them up. I use Go SMS which is a full texting app with backup functionality. A factory reset will clear your account credentials and apps from your phone. Titanium should be able to back up your notepad app and data, as long as the notepad app is not a system app, and you do a restore onto roughly the same rom (or at least same android version). Depending on your notepad app it may have its own backup option or syncing to a cloud service (e.g. evernote)

I think you'll need to download it yourself from the Market, that'll take like 30 seconds. Yeah, do a factory reset if you can. SMS Backup+ for SMS messages. Not sure about Notepad items, maybe Titanium Backup can do that.
Guest targetbsp Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Under Market -> My Apps it will show all apps you have paid for as either 'Installed' or 'Purchased' if they're not. All yours on a new phone will show as purchased and you can just download them again

My Market / MyApps only shows 'Installed' and its star rating alongside each app. Maybe a limitation of Android 2.1 that I am running?

So when you have logged in on your google account on the new phone you will see all paid apps you have purchased under my apps.
Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hi PeterPanDroid, Hope all goes well with your replacement, did they tell you the same as me?? When they swap/replace it, they replace it for a second hand/refurb...?? or are you getting a brand new one?? I am pee'd off with my replacement, as I have since noticed after recieving it, that it has scuff marks, where the silver has come off the buttons :( I wonna complain about it... - also, were you told to take everything out, battery, sim, sd, back cover and hand over just the screen...?? As for your games/data, and all that.... could you not just simply make a ClockWorkMod Backup/Restore of your entire phone, so you dont have to reset everything back up again?? Would be far simpler...?? Cheers, Lister
Guest targetbsp Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) It's unfortunately normal for electronics companies to give refurbs as warranty replacements. You're generally OK as long as the one you get back wasn't originally returned for an intermittent fault that they didn't find!! I'd have thought they'd put a new case on it if it showed signs of wear though! Edited August 2, 2011 by targetbsp

They weren't forthcoming about what I'd get in exchange, though I did ask. At the time I was bothered, perhaps wrongly, that I would lose my OLED version. Anyway, the swapover didn't happen in the end. I got cold feet with having just 24 hours to figure out how to make the necessary backups and the broken power switch seemed to be gradually coming back to life. I called to Orange to cancel the swapover, which they could not rearrange, but suggested I should tell the courier of the new plan on their arrival. Odd, but their rules! - The courier was fine about it. I've gleaned the utilities I would need to perform backup of my notes and messages from this thread, but I'll look into Clockwork, thanks for the suggestion. Pp
Guest strat.minger Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Hey bit late but i will add my thoughts in anyway, Look into Titanium backup for your apps and data (needs root though). I just changed from CM7 to GSF, equivalent of getting a new phone as it is a factory reset, it copied everything across fine everything saved. Also just search the market for sms backup to back up them. As another point for paid apps, when you log in to your account on a new phone, factory reset etc... go to the market and 'my apps' here it will show you the ones you have purchased that you can then download. It wont show it like this if you have it installed. Anyway hope your phone gets better!

You can backup all of them very easily using qtadb http://qtadb.wordpress.com/download/ (Puts them into /sdcard/qtadb/backup/*.apk) Better to do it than not bother. (Emulators that have since been removed from the market (but that have been paid for) won't work and its so easy its not worth it).
