Corvus 5 SP1

Hiya, after weeks of using modaco R8 rom, i have managed to get Corvus 5 SP1 running smooth (except angry birds FC every now and then)

I am using the honeycomb theme and also launcher pro too and custom boot screen.

My problems are wallpaper, why do all wallpapers work absolutely fine on modaco R8 (they are centred, look nice), but on Corvus 5 they are stretched, not centred and seem pixelated, i have tried multiple apps to resolve this to no avail, altho live wallpapers show as they should do, screen centred and great res, strange...

The other thing is why are widgets, i.e the power centre widgit like 2 times the size on Corvus 5 as they are on modaco R8, it takes up 1/5 of the screen, it's nuts, infact all widgets are enormus.

Could this be something to do with the setup of the screen DPI, and if so, how do you change the DPI anyway, i know it can be done in Vegacomb, but Vegacomb for me is still too beta and prefer a fully functional device rather that a test mode tablet.

There are things on modaco R8 i like, the screen layout for widgets, it seems zippy fast, but there are things i like about Corvus 5 too, like iplayer seems better and you tube too, but the wallpaper and widget thing is getting annoying...

If i knew what i was doing with android and i don't, i would cook up some rom with some R8 features and Corvus 5 features, sadly i can't and it may not be as easy to do as thinking it lol..

Anyway, thanks to all the Devs for the cooked up rom upgrades, you've made a standard tablet into something amazing with the extra features like hosting devices, can't do that on an iPad hahahaha

Thanks for the reply, sadly i can't purchase apps from the store as google don't accept my type of debit card and i don't have a credit card either, which is putting me off dumping my iPhone 3GS for an android phone.

If i could buy apps i would have cleared £15 easy so far on games and apps for my tablet.

How can google not accept all major types of card from around the world is beyond me, and with the lack of updates for products to newer firmwares, i can see android falling further behind apple and maybe microsoft when they release mango update for windows phone 7.

Yes it will change when 3.1 or 3.2 comes out, but what about those with devices now, have to buy new, since i have had my iPhone, i have had countless updates, ok yes some for security updates, but nether the less, they update what they can when and with ios5 around the corner, you'd think android would wake up and get things sorted.

I hope so, sadly updates are upto the OEM's of the devices, which they can't be bothered with and just make a new device with a newer OS, what makes me laugh is that there is kernels for 3.2 aka ice cream sandwich, and a flood of new devices, phones with 2.3 gingerbread and tablets with 3.0 honeycomb, LMAO, it's daft, so to get a 3.2 device we maybe looking at this time next year when android have coding for 4.1 or 4.2 lol.

Maybe the OEM's should look at people like Newbe5 and Corvus and Paul to sort roms/firmwares for newer devices, as these guys get things done in there spare time making devices better all round for buyers to enjoy.

Anyway, rant over, hehehe, Chris

If you register at XDA Devs, you can get VTL for free. Google Market is not the only market (try doing that on an iThing). SlideMe and AndAppStore both have paid apps.

Regarding updates, you cannot equate a phone to a tablet. How are OEMs supposed to deliver updates to a non-3G connected device? Advent have released several updates through the Vega website and there are long threads on here with great detail about why the Vega cannot officially go beyond 2.2 and why doing so would not be a good idea anyway. Ice Cream Sandwich makes perfect sense.

Finally, Android does not need so many updates as iOS. It works better out of the box :)

Using launcherpro?

Hit the menu button on the homescreen and choose 'preferences' then 'Homescreen Settings' and set the columns to 8 and rows to 5.

I'm not using the Honeycomb theme, so I don't know if it changes anything above.

Respecting your decision about moving to iOS, have to say i got the first iPod Touch and after less than a year they managed to stop making updates for it.

Right now, Apple list of discontinued are: iPod Touch 1rst & 2nd generations, and firsts iPhone's including iPhone 3G (not 3gs).

Just saying this because dont think you'll get fully updates all the time on iOS.

I will keep my advent vega (maybe not if the battery keeps running down so fast). I got my iPhone 3GS Dec 2009 and it had ios 3.1.3, since then i have had all 3.x updates, then 4.0 which brought multi tasking and app folders and in sept will get ios5 update, ok yes as with ios 4 i didn't get all the features like the iPhone 4, but most of them, ios5 will probably be the 3GS's last major update if the rumors are right with a new iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 coming this september.

To Simonta, sorry if i annoyed you with my comments, wasn't my intention, but the comment that android works out of the box, that maybe, so does apple stuff (i know you are kinda anti apple corp) and my pop at android was merely my frustration at how android are conducting there business, if you have had an apple device and used if for along time, you can see how they seem to have all there bases covered in both updates, apps, connectivity to home computers etc, where as with android, they are light years behind with there business ethics in my opinion.

Also, the Vega, it works out of the box yes, but no market app to expand, so you go get the .apk and install, then start by downloading angry birds, but wait, i tried numerous times and got that this app is not compatible, please select another device, to which i went and got modaco R8 rom and then we started seeing what the vega can do. So the vega out of the box isn't to it's full potential until you update the rom.

A lot of peoples gripes with apple is the lack of customisation unless you jailbreak which can be a pain in the bottom to sort out mostly with apple trying to stop it at every corner with ios updates, they do get jailbreak sorted eventually, but for me it wasn't worth it.

Anyway, all that aside, android will get stronger, put the vega with corvus5 and ipad 2 together and lets see what the ipad can really do, yes it has 3g, but so can the vega with a dongle, can you plug in external drives/flash drives into an ipad, or usb mice/keyboards (only bluetooth on ipad) hdmi port for outing films etc (ipad via apple tv at a cost) usb game pads for gaming, i think not LOL, so yes i think my advent for it's flexibility will kick my brothers ipad 2 off this planet, as for smoothness/apps and ease of use updates/sync maybe not, guess i can have it all.
