So basically, i found this forum website around 2 month ago where i started to become interest into the whole modding thing (own an android phone) i started looking into the advent vega and i really cant decide if its finally time to buy one or since its close to september, should i wait and see if there is an advent vega 2 in the mist as i know there is rumors,

Basically this is just to justify me buying one, i will use it often and have everything i need already booked marked :L (such as corvus 5 + sp1 and the modded stock rom ready for when the newest vega comb is released with the .39 kernel, Looks awsome :D)

thanks all

Hiya, yeh that's a tough one, the vega is cool, and the price is right for the spec right now and seems to be instock in most UK stores that sell it...

As for the vega 2, is it really due sept, and if so what will it be, £250 as the vega was or will it be way pricer as it will probably have some new cool hardware and maybe honeycomb too making it in the same bracket if not better than the transformer and others, or will it still be classed as a high end budget tablet...

You have an android phone, so if i was you, i'd hold off, and if the vega 1 goes missing when the vega 2 comes out and it's too pricey, there's always ebay for a vega 1...

gahhhhhhhhhh, still not sure as i know someone that will sell me a vega brandnew for £150 ! its tough waiting and the vega 2 will be priced at around £250 like you said but i dont think it will come with honeycomb as i was ready the vega 2 forum and supposenly there was some leaked specs which consisted of:

will be slim more. just 10.5mm, 1280*800lcd, 10point touch, double camera. around 670g. will be built 4GB or 16GB EMMC storage. but OS will be android 2.2

Not sure if these are true but if they are i dont really see a point in waiting, i guess waiting would be a good option to truely see what the Advent vega 2 has in store.

For me it's a no brainer, buy it, if you don't like it or the vega 2 is alot better than the vega 1 when it's released, then sell your vega 1, you should get your money back.

Some tips for corvus 5 install, make sure you use the stock rom and not the modded stock rom as i seem to have problems with the latter, delete cache, then data/factory settings then davlik cache which is in the advanced option of recovery aka clockworkmod, once installed reboot and mess with it, run recovery and install sp1 update, that will get rid of the 2 penquins at the begin of the boot process, find and install the honeycomb theme via recovery too, seems to make the vega even snappier i found, also download from the market launcher pro as it's free and has some great settings options, or if you can buy apps ( i can't due to google not accepting my type of payment card) then alot of people say VTL launcher is the best but costs.

Also maybe look at a bigger micro sd card, i got a 16gb card brand new sealed from ebay for £17 and formatted it via recovery giving 14gb to card and 2gb memory to ext 2 partition for moving apps across.

Other than that, just have fun with it, and if you find a cure to assign wallpapers in corvus5 properly as mine seem stretched and pixelated then let me know, hehehe....

On a final note, don't forget that Newbe5 Corvus and others are making big strides to get honeycomb onto the vega 1 and from what i have seen it looks even better than vegacomb as they are totally redoing it, which i doubt will be in the pipeline anytime soon for the vega 2 when it's released, from my prospective honeycomb on the vega 1 will be the last rom cooked up as i think that when the vega 2 is out they will be looking at maybe 3.1 or 3.2 on the new vega 2, but that's just my take on what may happen...

Ah right thanks, made some valid points there tbh, and about flashing over the modded stock rom, this has clockwork mod built into right ? what would you recommend be the easiest was to get clockwork mod on the normal stock rom, Would putting the Clean & Stable Add-On for the market then downloading rom manager from that and thus install CWM ? then clear the cache , davlik cache and settings and unzip Corvus 5 via CWM work ? i was just gonna use the modded stock since it would be easier but meh :P

And yeh, i understand that vegacomb will basically be the last rom that they will make for the vega as theres only so much it can do obv, i guess if i buy for £150 i could easily sell it when the vega 2 is first out like you said, buttttt, it might not matter anyway since Ice cream sandwich is out soon from google soon isnt it (well its reported to be anyway) you think the vega will see that update?

You are right, the modded stock rom has recovery (clockworkmod) installed with it, so it's easier to flash with, tho and this maybe me i found it messed up the rom, not sure if it is the new rom file size cooked for vegacomb 1.7 install or what, but i found the stock rom to be a stable rom to flash over once you delete the cache etc.

To get recovery on you vega without the modded stock rom, i watched a video on you tube by a guy called evil bobbins that explains how to do this with adb push commands or if you want without via terminal on your vega, it's all explained in his video, think he is also installing corvus 5 too when doing it.

As for ice cream sandwich, i don't think so, if you watch the latest video of Newbe5 and his honeycomb rom which he has released to get user input, it uses 128mb of video ram, so i am guessing ice cream will be geared around hardware way beyond the vega, but again, i could be wrong, it's very interesting watching all this unfold.

I think if you buy it you wont regret it as look at all the things done for the vega 1, and with a new vega on the way, still there is a new stable honeycomb rom to be expected at some point, these guys ain't giving up now, they seem more focused than ever lol, and props to these guys for doing it so we can all enjoy the fruits of there hard labour...
