Guest jonmac73 Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hi all - anyone had a hardware repair/replacement by Argos ? What was the experience & any chance of replacement straight from Orange ? Have dust under screen getting progressively worse, and more importantly headphone socket no longer works. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance If you bought it from Argos, Orange won't be interested. Its up the retailer you bought from to sort it out. Take it back to the store you got it from (with the reciept) and see what they say. Argos are usually very good with faulty stuff, depend how they view dust under the screen. Its not the fault they get as a rule !

FYI main fault is the headphone socket failing - hardware failure. dust under screen has been getting progressively worse and sounds like a build quality issue from other threads here - but not the main reason and TBH could live with it.Was really after anyone with first-hand experience of Argos returns - must be 000's of UK users bought from there ....<br> Edited August 2, 2011 by jonmac73
Guest Worlestone Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 When I asked Argos about returning my phone because of dust they told me they only repair them, no replacement and the turn around was about 2-3 weeks... Guest McrRed Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 When I asked Argos about returning my phone because of dust they told me they only repair them, no replacement and the turn around was about 2-3 weeks... That's their standard response but a legal response. According to consumer law, if you can demonstrate that the unit is faulty within a reasonable time (nb NOT limited to just 1 year!) then they MUST refund or replace. I've done similar with several faulty items from Argos over the years...they're usually good to deal with. Good luck!
Guest rockstarszzzz Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Could you please update us with what Argos says? I've got mine that might need a visit to Argos ;)
Guest t0mm13b Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Orange are definitely not interested in returning back a handset after the first 6 months - they will hand it over to Regenersis who in turn will hand you over to repairmob.com. Have the unfortunate experience to discover that - as am based in south ireland, and ringing Orange's shop in Belfast, the sales assistant in the shop in Belfast, referred me to a number which is only for orange network users on pay as you go. So had to do a bit of digging around, and frustrated by the lack of customer care - I emailed them via their orange website, and in turn, got bounced around... Have heard Argos seems to handle it better - return it within 1 year and can show its faulty, they will replace it no problem! :) Good luck :)

Guest vulpy Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Hi guys, I burnt the usb socket (unfortunate choice of voltage on my univ power adaptor) on my OLED blade. The phone is 10mths old, do you think there is still a chance to have it replaced/fixed by Orange? Also I can't reflash the stock image, are they checking the rom (could they refuse to fix it/ charge if they discover custom ROM oin it)? Thx!

Also I can't reflash the stock image, are they checking the rom (could they refuse to fix it/ charge if they discover custom ROM oin it)? Thx! In order to shed some light on you guys who are going to deal with Orange: I don't think they check the software. Especially when the issue is with hardware. If you are going to send them phone saying it's broken physically, they will look for physical tempering with the phone. If you send them phone saying one fine morning it just stopped working, they will check for software updates/ ROMs etc. I had Toshiba TG01 with Orange. My long story with Orange all the way upto county court judgements is floating around on various forums. I had a very rough ride with Orange and hence I've gone to giffgaff. I have had 13 different replacements for Toshiba TG01 from Orange out of which I sent 8 with my own custom rom on it. Now the reason I had to keep replacing the phones was - It kept freezing (typical windows eh!) and the call quality was rubbish - first one being pure software issue and second one being issue with software or hardware. So I was pretty much risking sending the phone loaded with custom ROM, but I was replacing the literally every 3 days! Hence being a ROM junkie, I couldn't be arsed to replace the stock ROM etc partially and partially I was well pissed at them anyway! So in nutshell, I've had 13 successful replacements with Orange without worrying about what ROM is on the phone. Obviously here the story is different. If you are sending the phone under 'warranty' and loading a custom ROM or even rooting the phone voids your warranty - Orange has all the rights to refuse to help you. So as far as possible try to put stock rom back, unroot the phone, lock it if possible! - but if you can't, then don't worry, Orange tech staff aint all that smart ;)
Guest Stooby Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 I had to return an OSF to Argos a few months ago due to the "earpiece" speaker being knackered. I'd had the phone for about 5 months and they just replaced it on the spot. Well impressed. Hope this helps.

Guest rgarrick Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Keeping a close eye on this thread as the earpiece on my SF has started to buzz during calls. I bought it a few months ago from Argos but have been reluctant to take it back as it has a few scrapes on the side, a fine scratch on the screen & of course it's been rooted & running GSF. Would the physical damage & custom ROM hamper my chances of getting the phone replaced under warranty as they may think the phone has been dropped & caused damaged to the earpiece?
Guest Stooby Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 I must admit I flashed the original ROM back on mine before I returned it, and it no obvious physical damage. The buzzing is what mine was doing. Keeping a close eye on this thread as the earpiece on my SF has started to buzz during calls.
