Guest Anybid Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I hope this is the right place to look for help with this problem: I have an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) that I upgraded from Android 2.1 to 2.2 following the instructions found on this forum. First I used the ROM "Swedish_Spring_RLS5" and then the Auto-rotate sreen did not work anymore (never changed to landscape mode). Then I switched back to the Orange stock ROM, as suggested in other posts in this forum, but this did not help, the screen still doesn't rotate. Then I tried two more ROMs ("Japanese_Jellyfish_RLS9" and "flb-froyo-blade-r10b") and the screen still doesn't rotate. I already returned one phone, since I was sure that it had to be a hardware problem. Now I have an otherone, and exactly the same problem. I really hope somebody could help me with this issue, since the phone is hard to handle just in portrait mode....;( THANKS in advance.

With the old Orange Stock ROM - 2.1 - Eclair, it only rotated to the left side landscape. That was changed in 2.2 onwards, Froyo, Gingerbread, it rotates to either side in landscape mode.

So a second, completely different phone has the same issue of non-functioning rotate sensor?? Do you live in an area with extremely high magnetic fields perhaps, that are interfering with the sensors (clutching at straws here). Have you checked that the auto-rotate setting is enabled? Does it work in other apps - not all apps support rotate. Edited August 3, 2011 by flshg

Thank you very much for the reply. Yes I always wiped cache and data. So far no ROM works.

Rotation does not work in any application. It has to be some sort of software problem, since changing the ROM could hardly break any hardware....?
Guest Beyo Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Hi, I have phone from orange Switzerland. It's sensors (acc and mag) stop working when I replaced the rom. After search I found that this phone come with different sensors and some kernel work with them: The Rom based on the leak kernel in Ginger Stir Fry and the Swedish Spring with the Alternative stock kernel Swedish_Spring_RLS5_softbank_kernel. Maybe it's the same case with yours phone.

On all these sensors should work...On CM7, for example, my sensors aren't working also so I stick to burstlam's rom. :)

But how do I do this, would I have to have Swedisch_Spring_RLS5 ROM installed and then copy the file to the SD-card and from the ClockworkMod Recovery have to choose "apply sdcard: update.zip"? I think this is the right track, just need to know how to install this kernel;) Thank you very much.
Guest Beyo Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Copy them both to the SD card and then "install zip from sd card" for Swedish_Spring_RLS5 ROM and again "install zip from sd card" for the kernel.

OK, thanks. So now I get the error "This is not a Gen 2 phone", both with softbank and comviq kernel;( So would I have to install a ROM that changes the phone to gen 2? And if yes, where could I find the ROM zip? Or is there an other kernel, that works with gen 1 phones?
Guest Beyo Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I converted my phone to GEN2 (http://android.modaco.com/topic/337798-gen1-to-gen2-tpt-upgrade/).
Guest Anybid Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I converted my phone to GEN2 (http://android.modac...n2-tpt-upgrade/). Thanks, so I take it, that the SS RLS5 ROM is working for both gen1 and gen2 phones (since it worked for my gen1 phone and it worked for your upgraded gen2 phone)?
Guest Anybid Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 OK, I finally got it to work. THANKS A LOT FOR ALL THE HELP!!! To recap for others who have the same problem with a Swiss Orange San Francisco: -Upgrade GEN1 to GEN2 (follow this post: ) -Wipe Data and Cashe -Install SS RLS5 ROM -Install Softbank Kernel -Reboot Auto rotate should work now.
