Hi Guys 'n' Gals

Haven't been here for quite while due to illness, and my Vega hasnt been switched on for ages :(

Now back "firing on 12" but I am very much behind on whats been happening.

I am still using Pauls last Modaco ROM R8.

Having problems playing a video in AVI in the following format:-

Video: Xvid 720x400 25.00fps 1592Kbps [Video 0]

Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz stereo 384Kbps [Audio 1]

Video works fine - great picture, but no audio!

The video plays find on my PC & my TV Surround system using a WD media player, so I know that the AVI file is OK.

I use RockPlayer 1.6.1 & nswPlayer on my Vega & neither will play audio (have tried updating to RockPlayer 1.7.2 but it wont install!)

Rockplayer insists on using Hardware Decoding mode - wont play it in SW mode.

Every other video I have plays without any problems on the Vega - its just this one thats not got any sound!

I have searched the forum but couldnt find a solution. :(

Thanks in advance for any help that is offered

Cheers

JellyW

The problem is the codec - as far as I know Android does not natively support AC3 audio. B)

What I do is for local files, I convert them with Handbrake to MP4 with the audio reencoded to AAC.

For files on my server, I stream them using Plex which automatically converts them on the fly to a format my Vega will play.

Hope this helps...

Hi Guys,

Many thanks to all of you for your inputs. I had also tried moboplayer - sorry should have said!

Looks like Yogimax's suggestion of using Handbrake to convert the audio may be the answer - never heard of it, but I'll give that a try and report back ;)

Thanks ever so

JW

If you are using Handbrake to convert and the file is only to be played on your Vega, you might wish to downscale the video to match your screen resolution of 1024x600. There is a Handbrake profile here which is optimised for the Vega and gives good quality video/sound at a smaller file size.

Note that's set for 16:9 ratio films so if you were to apply it to say Black Swan (as I did) then everyone would appear skinny as that's 2.35:1

+1 for mx player, it got an update a couple of days ago and now the software decoding on tegra2 is excellent (utilises both cores properly)

even plays 720p mkv streamed from my lan fine (although there's a very slight delay on the audio)

I'm running spb shell 3D and have just installed mx player with the arm7 Tegra2 HW codec. It plays mkv files with HD decoder well and in sync, but after about 10 minutes it closes the film but not the player. Does anyone know if it's lack on memory on the Vega with it running spb. Thou it still closes when I'm using VTL.

I'm on Corvus5 +sp1 and have about 210mb free memory before running mx player.

The only film in mkv I have at the moment is The Dark Knight at about 750mb and 2hr 30mins.

It has 4 streams,

0; Video - H264 - MPEG-4 AVC - 720x400

1; Audio - MPEG AAC Audio mp4a 48000Hz - AAC ext SBR

2&3; Subtitles

Thanks in advance.
