Guest tooplanx Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Hi everyone, I installed a Froyo ROM a while a go using 'clockwork recovery' and since then I have a problem with the camera: Basically the 3MP setting on the camera doesn't actually take pictures at 3 MP resolution- they look much more like 1 MP or even less. 1 & 2 MP settings seem to work fine, but when I switch to 3 MP the resulting pictures look really low res and muddy. I have the quality set to super-fine, so its not that. I also think that I'm missing some options for video type, as I can only record in CIF with H263 and AMRNB audio. I swear there were more options before the upgrade. I don't know what ROM it was as it was a 'idiots guide' type tutorial for upgrading to froyo, and I can't find the website I used. Under 'About phone' the details are: Baseband version: P729BB01 Kernal version: 2.6.32.9-perf zte-kernel@Zdroid-SMT Build number: P729BV1.0.0B15 if any of that helps! Thanks for your help / advice.

Before doing anything with the camera sw or the rom, install QuickPic from market and look at the same pictures in QuickPic that you considered bad quality. You will be surprised how much better your pics are. The stock gallery app is a crap. Edited August 6, 2011 by domerator
Guest tooplanx Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 Before doing anything with the camera sw or the rom, install QuickPic from market and look at the same pictures in QuickPic that you considered bad quality. You will be surprised how much better your pics are. The stock gallery app is a crap. Thanks for the info on QuickPic, the stock gallery is indeed slow and crap. But I know that it isn't anything to do with the gallery- the pictures look crap when viewed on a computer and in other android photo viewers. 2MP look fine. Since posting the OP I've tried 'lgcamera' from the market which is a massive improvement on the stock video camera. However, I've noticed that the same problem exists on the still camera on LgCamera- 2MP looks fine, 3MP looks worse than 1MP. It must be something to do with the ROM conflicting with the phone hardware. Any ideas how to fix it? I don't really want to factory reset and install a different ROM...
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 Is it not the vm heap size ? What is the size of your vm heap ? You can see the size in the file /system/build.prop Look at the line dalvik.vm.heapsize=XXm

I have no idea what that means by the way! Hope this helps. Cheers
Guest flshg Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I think it would be useful to try a different rom, perhaps the froyo rom you are using is old. I would suggest trying swedish spring 5. It would require downloading one file, and using clockworkmod that you have already got (unless its an old version thats not compatible with current roms).

Guest Pantalon10 Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Hello, if you want a better camera use... try LG Camera (both picture and video support on 2 app). There are a free version with just some text on the picture...
Guest flshg Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 For the video recording options, you could try updating the media_profiles.xml file described here. It should enable more video encoding options, and you never know, may solve the camera problem as well.
