Guest todoleo Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I've just picked up an Orange Monte Carlo. It was £149.99 + £10 top up. There was a dummy model on display in the Pay Monthly section of the Orange store but no pricing. So far I'm enjoying the large screen size. Build quality is good and it seems to be pretty snappy even with the Orange bloatware on the device. I'm about to attempt rooting it. I'll let you know how I get on.
Guest FrankieADZ Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Also I'd a thought ppl on orange already could use there phone fund. Thats what i did when i brought my Blade
Guest todoleo Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Also I'd a thought ppl on orange already could use there phone fund. Guest todoleo Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 The Orange Monte Carlo is now rooted thanks to Paul's root post. http://android.modaco.com/topic/344819-09-aug-superboot-root-access-for-the-zte-skate/
Guest Frankish Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Have you played any games popular ones like Angry Birds, PLants V Zombie etc? Also how is the multi touch is it flawed like on the blade?
Guest steve1221 Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 It seems that Orange are still doing the £30 off if you have an existing payg sim (for 3 months or more technically). Which bring the cost of the phone down to £119.99 Much better :)

Multitouch is fine in the browser and the homescreen, I haven't noticed any bugs or inconsistencies.

Yeah i've seen posted that it tracks 5 points and doesn't suffer from flipping axis like the blade. Good news.
Guest Stopa_pl Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 So summarizing.... you pay abaut £160 for old technology (ARMv6 and Adreno200) O.o You can pay £15 more and buy Huawei IdeosX5 with (ARMv7 and Adreno205).... I think comments are unnecessary :)

I think comments are unnecessary :) I like the idea of the Huawei's ARMv7 a lot, but overall, I'm finding myself leaning more towards the Skate should I upgrade. The screen on the Skate is significantly bigger and seems to look much nicer as well. HD video capture is nice, but from what I've seen, the results on the Huawei are far from earth-shattering. The Skate will almost certainly benefit from a lot more modding support as well. Is CM7 even available for the Huawei yet? It's a real shame the OMC wasn't released as a 1Ghz/ARMv7 model, but at the same time, it looks to have a lot going for it. I'm reasonably impressed by early videos showing smooth menu scrolling, especially considering all the Orange bloatware that comes pre-installed.

Don't worry about the Orange bloatware. I removed it all by rooting (as per Paul's guide) and then installing my launcher of choice (Launcher Pro) and uninstalling all the Orange crapware using Uninstaller for Root (available in the Android Market. By the way, the Android Market on the OMC has updated to the new version which looks nice on the OMC's big screen.
