can't edit build.prop!

i am trying to edit build.prop but i can't do this! my phone is rooter correctly,i have root explorer 2.6 but when i open root explorer i can change the roots by pressing the button "Remount as R/W" but when i open the "system" folder i press the button "Remount as R/W" but it does nothing! how can i edti the build.prop please??

1 Make sure you have allowed root explorer with root

2 make sure you open it in text editor, not in view mode

3 if anything doesn't work, download rom, and modify build.prop from the zip file and flash it.
