blade/cyanogenmod voip?

Hello all. I've just bought a blade from orange uk which I've unlocked and flashed with cyanogen 703. I'm trying to set up voip calling. On my e71 this worked seamlessly with the normal contacts, but android seems to want me to add a special contact entry for each contact to make a call? My voip service supports voip out with [email protected] but I can't make android do it. Can anyone help?
