Orange San Fran is almost dead, The micro-usb port on the phone is broken. It need to be at a funny angle to accept a charge. This is frustrating to say the least and getting worse.

I intend on phoning Orange to see if they will accept a repair.

Issues with this are:

I do not have the receipt.

I have upgraded the handset to GEN2 - Downgrade available?

Need to re-lock the phone but I believe Blade buddy can do this?

I did not register the Orange SIM when I got the handset and do not have the SIM, I unlocked it and put my giffgaff SIM in straight away.

Surely as the handset in under a year old. They were released for sale on the 21 September 2010, I should still qualify for a free repair as it's under the warranty?

I'll need to downgrade and re-lock and un-root it prior to sending back to Orange of course :)

Bit of solder perhaps? Applied to the right places easily fixes the same issues with usb ports on my 10 year old laptop :P

I called them in the end and they have accepted my request for a free repair :)

After making 8 calls, being hung up on twice, I eventually threatened them with Trading Standards which seemed to get traction :)

I was going to suggest trying a different USB cable.

My girlfriend's SF exhibited a similar problem last month and I feared the worst. However, after trying it with a different USB cable there haven't been any problems at all. After testing with my own phone and seeing similar problems, I binned the crummy ZTE USB cable.

Hi Guys,

Maringer is correct, it will be the cr*ppy ZTE USB cable they give you.... I had the same problem (and same conditions, other than it wasnt Gen2, still is Gen1 and I used T-Mobile from day one)...

Anyway, was charging phone and about to drop off chair, I grabbed it just in time, but as did, grabbed the phone and usb cable at sametime. Then I noticed it wouldnt charge either, well annoyed thought I had killed the phone... :( Anyway, camera died in the phone anyway...

Took it back to Orange as it was still supported, and they gave me a cr*ppy refurb replacment. Honestly, I expect better of this... I dont pay for refurb price, I pay for new item...

ORANGE CUSTOMER SUPPORT SUCKS!!

Plus, they only wanted front screen, not entire box, so still left with a knackered cable. Bought one from PoundLand which is way better than original, as it doesnt even wobble unlike original did from day one, which made it felt flimsy...

Anyway, good luck.... Lister
