ModdedStock or ModdedStockv2

A (I hope) simple question; I'd assumed I'd find an answer here or on TabletRoms but my search-fu seems to be failing me.

What is the difference between ModdedStock and Moddedstock V2 ?

- Did the memory partitioning change?

More specifically; is v2 a requirement for VegaComb3.2 (r6)? My MobII only has the original ModdedStock and I'm wondering if this is a suitable base for VC3.2?

- My assumption is that if the memory partitioning did not change it will be fine. But I wanted to ask the experts here before I start testing.

I installed VC 3.2 build 5 over moddedstock that was posted here a month ago, don“t know if another version is out

Some people (me included are having problems with VC version 3.2 on both builds using modded stock version 2. Someone on Tabletroms has tried installing the VC 3.2 using modded stock version 1 and the problems seem to have gone. We don't know why this is the case yet.

The problem is that using v2 modded stock means that the tablet installs the VC 3.2 but will not reboot. It just brings up a blank screen. Using V1 modded stock then flashing VC 3.2 seems to eliminate the problem and allow the tablet to boot up.

I would like to add that I only know about half a dozen people who have this problem - for most people it seems to make no difference.

v2 had VERY slightly modified partition tables, that fit perfectly with the kernel being used in the newer VegaComb versions. I would always suggest using that rather than the older layout in v1 (although V1 MIGHT work, I wouldn't suggest it just in case :P).

I might have just answered this.. FYI I was already running 3.2r5 on top of the original ModdedStock. So I knew that worked.

I just did a 'install from zip' and put 3.2r6 on the system; then wiped userdata, cache and battery stats, then rebooted.

Now I'm stuck at the 'Vegacomb is FREE software' screen and I can't get back into Clockworkmod to go to my backup of 3.2r5..

This seems to match a couple of posts in the main Thread.

So I'm going to have to re-flash anyway (and will make sure to use ModdedStock V2 this time, bit glum since this means I have to track down a windoze machine too, which was what I was really trying to avoid in the first place ;)).

I'm on here as well ! Someone else has confirmed that v1 solved his reboot problem. Newbie have you any idea why this would be? it seems to be something to do with the cache partition?

I have to admit to installing this from moddedstock version 1 as I am lazy and everything is working perfectly, apart from flash in opera mini.

This hasn't posed a problem though as it is now working in maxathon for tablets which is a better browser imo

The whole thing is blisteringly fast compared to 1.7

A big thank you to those involved

Make that 9.

VC3.2 test 5 works with modded stock ROM v2 while VC3.2 build 6 works with v1

For me, ModdedStock V2 did the trick.or maybe just the fact that I re-flashed the machine was enough. Whatever, I'm typing this on the MobII running VC 3.2r6 smile.gif and I'm a very happy bunny. now to do a bit of testing.

Doh! I feel such an idiot. The CORRECT procedure for installing Vegacomb 3.2 build 6 is:

1 Connect your charger and charge the tablet until the charging light stops flashing

2 Keep the charger connected until you have completed this procedure

3 Install modded stock ROM v2

4. Install Vegacomb 3.2 build 6.

This works because:

1 The NAND flash memory that the ROM is stored inrequires a 12V supplywhen writing to the device (according to the specifications)

2 The Vega charger is unregulated, which means it will only supply 12V under light load.

3 You are ensuring a light load by having the battery fully charged.

The installation process is not guaranteed under any other conditions.

ModdedStock V2 was what I needed to get VC 3.2 Build 6 working. Build 5 had installed for me without a problem. But Build 6 stubbornly stuck at the opening screen warning about being "ripped off". I flashed my copy of ModdedStock a number of times only to get stuck at Build 6 opening screen. Reading this thread led me the the more recent ModdedStock V2 so on the next attempt Build 6 installed perfectly.

i have just succesfully installed vegacomb 3.2 on my vega over modded stock v 1 and with less than 60% battery and it went like a charm and works just fine, which i think just goes to prove how for some reason there are no hard and fast rules with the vega :P

Yes, I am often able to install ROMs without ensuring the proper power levels. I installed Vegacomb test 5 on top of modded stock ROM v2 that way, but installing build 6 without the correct power levels didn't work. Installing with the correct power levels did.

The Vega is an engineered product. That is, it's built to hard and fast rules. Those rules aren't published, but one of general rule of electronics is that it works most reliably if the power is up to spec.
