Guest fatriff Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 Hi all, I shorted my vega yesterday and had to by a new motherboard, put this in and it boots up straight away and it has the original avent rom on it.. Only issue is the touch screen isn't working. The buttons at the top and the volume buttons are working fine. What could it be? Could somebody point me to a diagram so I can see which cable is for the touchscreen and check weather the cable slides into the top or bottom part of the clip on the mobo.
Guest richardmlea Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 (edited) The ribbon goes under the brown clip. Here is a picture of the cable correctly fitted. I have lifted the black insulating tape so you can see the clip. Where did you find the motherboard for sale? It would be good to find somewhere that sells replacment parts. Thank's ! Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time someone wanted to replace the glass/touch panel opinion had it you couldn't buy them as only available in bulk to manufacturers. Can only imagine the OP bought a vega with smashed screen for spares. Hmmm might even have been you asking Edited August 22, 2011 by IanTurner

I can see the Vega going the same way, pushed way beyond it's original design, fanatically supported by a crew who do it for nothing more than bragging rights and a simple desire to help people out and a community of ordinary folk getting their first exposure to the "post PC era" (no, I don't believe it either). I wonder if we'll look back with fond memories in 20 years time or has technology become so pervasive that it will simply fade away?

Guest richardmlea Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time someone wanted to replace the glass/touch panel opinion had it you couldn't buy them as only available in bulk to manufacturers. Can only imagine the OP bought a Vega with smashed screen for spares. Hmmm might even have been you asking The person who sold there broken Vega for spares about a month ago didn't look very hard for a replacement LCD. The original is easy to find for sale, just put the model number into google, this is the top hit £38 + delivery http://www.lcds4less.co.uk/Infovision-laptop-lcd-screens/M101NWT2.shtml Its also on ebay for £36. The digitizer and the LCD are 2 seperate parts. Vega2219 is looking for a digitizer not the LCD. I have been looking for an improved screen for my Vega and have emailed a few suppliers on ebay to see if they can help. They claim to be able to supply screens for most devices. I only sent the emails on Saturday so only one has replied so far with this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-B101AW06-V-1-ACER-10-1-LED-LCD-SCREEN-/150540592915?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccess_RL&hash=item230ceb2713 Looking at the spec sheet (http://www.spectrah.com/product/lcd_panel/auo-lcd-panel/auo-B101AW06-V1-pre.pdf) it looks like it will work but the viewing angle is the same as the original screen and the contrast ratio is not as good. :( I did explain that I wanted a better screen but unfortunately this isn't. I will wait for more replies and keep looking for a better one as I am sure there is one out there somewhere. You know, I cut my software teeth on ZX81s, Spectrums and Vic 20s. I have been looking at my Vega as modular device like a pc or indeed a zx81. It is so upgradable both in terms of software and hardware. Things are any missing compared to other, more expensive tablets (3g,gps,more flash memory) but they can be added and even hidden inside if you brave enough. I have just started playing with a c64 emulator (my first computer) on my Vega. If I can get my old Zipstick joystick working (not a chance) it would be great. They say don’t play old games because you will destroy your heroes but I enjoyed messing around with a MAME emulator a few years ago so I think I will be ok. In 10 years we will look at today’s tablets with the same humour we now look at the first (brick) mobile phones. They will be still loved by a few but mocked by most. :( Edited August 23, 2011 by richardmlea
Guest IanTurner Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Ahem where did I mention lcd ? Glass/touch panel . Numerous people were after the glass and had to be informed the glass and touchscreen were a single component. This character was asking back in June and as noted the answer is still no. Likewise am only speculating on the broken screen which is to say glass as spares possibility as can't see the motherboard as being any more available for purchase as a single unit than the glass is. Why do some folks stick their tablet pcs down the back of the sofa then sit on them ? Old 8 bit computers are collected as there were a relatively smaller number of them but given the sheer numbers of modern devices they will just become landfill.

Yes, Sorry I just noticed that and was about to edit my post but you beat me to it. :D Mine lives under the sofa when I am not using it. Sounds weird but it safe from falling objects and fat arses. I will ask the person who has replyed t me about the lcd if he can supply the digitzer, just out of interest. Edited August 23, 2011 by richardmlea
Guest mad-is Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Hello! I am looking for a new mainboard for my Viewpad 10s or Vega? It appears that I managed to damage the USB with a faulty USB cable and it is not recognized by any pc (unknown device). I guess I cannot dream about flashing via docking port?? Cheers!
