Is moving dalvik cache onto ext partition created in cwm on sd card recommended ? or it will decrease efficiency and overall speed of android GSF b19 ?

That's a good question!

Here's my 2cents...

With the dalvik cache on the sd-card, I would imagine, it would wear out the sd-card's lifetime read/writing to it... and quite possibly, once that gets worn out, android is going to fall down on its knees as result of worn out card with the dalvik cache on it...and possibly all sorts of weird problems may manifest... that's my thinking - not 100% sure...

Unless somebody has a better explanation/answer.... I'll be more than delighted to be proven wrong and corrected.... B)

I used to move it to SD on my Hero, the SD Card didn't wear out and still works fine.

I did find loading apps etc. a bit slower. I'd only do it if you really need the extra space.

Thanks for that insight k0zmic...

Good to hear that you did not have problems...

So that's the question answered :)

NP.

I think experiences may vary though as it probably depends on the speed of your SD Card and how many apps there are and of what size.

I reckon Class 4 or above is probably a good idea if you want to use it.

I'd like to hear others opinions on it if they've used it on the Blade.

sd cards have quite advanced wear levelling, they don't 'wear out' quickly.

the internal storage is also nand & has similar issues, except the wear levelling is done at the yaffs2 file system level. it's just as (un)likely to wear out, but you can't easily replace that.

speed, storage space & power use are your main concerns. unless you have some extremely fast sd card then I think it's likely to be faster to have your apps on sd & davik on internal. also, if you move dalvik, then what are you using that free internal nand storage space for? i'm not sure if sd cards use more power than the internal nand.

I think the above...bolded text, is the crucial question.......why free up internal storage unless you actually need to....got to the nub of the issue....thanx
