Guest Sim Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 If I bought one off say ebay & got a PAYG sim would I be losing out on any funtionality or features the SPV offers? Im a poor student who cant really afford the £15/30+ pm. What about the "access pack" with its "unlimited" bandwidth till april? Im gutted they are only marketing this phone to the business sector, this kind of techie goodness belongs in the hands of the bedroom coders 8) The cheapest places I've found were genie telecom , etc & onestopphoneshop all offering pretty much the same but its still a lot of money over the course of a year.
Guest castlebrae Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 With a PATG sim you will be able to use the phone for calls and sms, and all the outlook functionality. You will not have GPRS, or I suspect picture messaging.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 You can have GPRS with PAYG just go to this link http://www.orange.co.uk/talkplans/pay_as_you_go.html
Guest Sim Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 what about updates from orange will they still be available?? Im mainly concerned of getting the phone and losing out because im not on contract.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 At the very worst even if you don't get full GPRS connectivety you can stil use a passthrough internet connection with the cradle to download the updates (like i just did to get the new ringtones and ackgrounds (waste of itme btw)). You just won't be able to use e-mail and possibly MMS, not that that is any great loss imho.
Guest townsejl Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 With PAYG you can still get everything - WAP via GPRS and also Internet. It does seem though that the access points (PAYGWAP and PAYGINTERNET) allow a lot less users than the contract points (ORANGEWAP and ORANGEINTERNET). My mate has a contract and he can connect to both WAP/INTERNET every time, whereas for me the WAP is not as regular and the INTERNET is even worse. You can also do MMS picture messaging with no problems. Hope this info helps. Jamie.
