Which ROM? and which GPS program?

I consulted the old stickied thread with a list of ROMS but it seemed it was out of date. I'm looking for a ROM that:

Mr Pigfish says I have a Gen1 model (sold with Android 2.1) and I have the Samsung OLED screen. (I understand that I can change this to Gen2 if needed? Any downsides to doing that?)

Is good for battery life.

Is stable - I won't have to mess around with it crashing often.

Is good with GPS use. (incl good battery, smooth GPS program operation etc.)

Also, I've been using CoPilot Live on the default ROM it came with (orange bloatware removed), and I've found it laggy and sluggish. My hope is that upgrading the ROM and choosing a less resource-hungry GPS program will remedy that issue. What GPS programs can you recommend?

Also a quick question whilst I'm here - back in the day when the San Frans first came out, I got a Tesco SIM card with a £5 data package, but couldn't get it working - have people succesfully got it working since?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, Swedish Spring 5 and Sygic.

Add FasterFix to fix gps.conf if you have problems getting a satellite fix in a few seconds.

Works perfectly

Navigon is probably the best (at least for the UK) Navteq maps good routing economical with battery, traffic works pretty well.

igo is pretty good but the situation is similar to the HTC_IME that people seem to be ok with getting unofficially and including in ROMS (Because its normally only sold / licensed to OEM's it can be a bit of a pita to setup). TTS is inconvenient to setup and you probably need to buy Loquendo. The routing is spot on though (Gives you the logical altenative routes that you would find if you looked at a map and did the same exercise yourself).

Copilot (8 or 8.2) Works allot better on any 2.2 or 2.3 rom other than CM7 (Which seems to have reboots allot of the time).

Sygic (Aura and GPS Navigation) makes very poor routing decisions and totally hammers the battery. (And also feels sluggish). I really don't understand why anyone likes it.

Another one is Ndrive but I have not tried that.

Go onto a 2.2 at least and try them all you find which you like (Most of them give you a 7 day trial).

If IGO had good text to speech it would be the best (It supports Navteq / Teleatlas / TomMap).

and its as if they actually thought about the interface allot.

All of the apps I have written about I have tested. (Outside - car and pedestrian routing profiles, on routes I know pretty well (and where there is situations where something is slower but it looks like it should be faster)).
