Guest fards Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) This is a pretty major overhaul of Gingerbread for Streak 5 This is collaboration between myself and DjSteve, with some huge contributions from ADW_Maniac and others, you know who you are Having spent months on this I was given a good working kernel to use, So the full rom zip at the bottom of the post has that kernel in it To get the best out of this rom : You must flash these AMSS & DSP files from fastboot if you're not happy flashing that then please don't use this rom. now onto the nice stuff this is a 2.3.3 rom, its pretty quick overall, and VERY stable. it has EXT4 fs (tweaked till its nipples bleed) it has some very funky memory hacks OLD INFO____ the kernel is based on Dells alpha kernel code, (which is why some stuff doesn't work too well) its a mix of lots of different things from AOSP code, to dell binaries (we're changing what we can as we go, but frankly its not easy reverse engineering these) 3d scores, IO scores are pretty quick Linpack scores > 41 Fingerprint is set to 2.3.3 CRESPO to allow all market apps to be shown Its not themed at all, so native gingerbread stylee I've included the following key functional FREE apps (support their devs please) VTL launcher, its a launcher designed for landscape and very configurable, also uses ADW themes total commander rc1 volume Plus (from the mighty meltus),its gingerbread so we can have a proper equalizer! Clocksync (helps with the timedrift) Hackers Keyboard (stock keyboard but better!) YOU WILL NEED TO FACTORY RESET if you flash it over a 2.2 rom If you're flashing over 2.3 build then at least delete dalvik cache. but factory reset is recommended BACK UP YOUR SDCARD BEFORE FLASHING (at least the any photos!) failure to do so may see them eaten by the phantom photo fancier. thoroughly recommend the following apps to go with this from market setdns setcpu getjar market 313 droidiris lgCamera (very tweakable 720p camcorder!) Locales2 Appbrain Market Fastweb install (works fully here) GET YOUR COUNTRIES GPS.conf from http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1233359 extract it and copy it (with total commander) to etc/gps.conf <<<<<<<<<<<<<<Please note this is still a WORK IN PROGRESS >>>>>>>>>> Please do not complain! get it from StreakDroid_2_3Beta2 please check the md5sum of the zip before flashing it a7a713881e5d294432e2010d1d81e0b2 GS2_3beta2.zip alpha kernel source https://github.com/f...ak5-GingerBread Edited September 11, 2011 by fards
Guest dsnreddy Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 link to streakdroid 2.3 http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/GS2-3beta1.zip
Guest fards Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 The link is in the first post why feel the need to repost it?
Guest Adam Mallinson Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Also as mentioned in the Streakdroid 2.0 thread, for a workaround for the headset issue you can use the Toggleheadset2 widget to force output through headphones
Guest fards Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 That was the app I was looking for last night to add for the first post but it was late! cheers
Guest haynesteve Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 The link is in the first post why feel the need to repost it? Hmmmm - maybe me but I see no sign of download link in OP - same problem on XDA as well
Guest fards Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Hmmmm - maybe me but I see no sign of download link in OP - same problem on XDA as well try reading to the bottom of the post! There's a reason I put it at the bottom... to make people READ
Guest haynesteve Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) No point 2nd thoughts - please check your links before insulting. Your "so-called" download link is a link back to Modaco Home page Thank you Edited August 31, 2011 by haynesteve
Guest SAIISH Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 The link in the first post is not working
Guest fards Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) fixed it, was definitely working when I posted it originally Also added highlighter to the bit that says you may need to factory reset, as people still aren't reading the instructions.. force closes are caused by user NOT factory resetting Edited August 31, 2011 by fards
Guest Azurren Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 fixed it, was definitely working when I posted it originally Modaco does this all the time ;) When I posted my pulse-guide it had an annoying issue where links I posted worked for me but not for anyone else.. Not sure if this issue is still present  Really pleased to see you are still developing for the streak :D Sadly as I need every feature of my phone I can't test it :(
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 First of all thanks to Fards for this new Gingerbread build. I just have one question about: There are workarounds for all of them, read and research you will find them... is there really permanent workarounds for them ? I'm mostly interested in Mic and Sensors (proximity, rotation, compass) problems... Also, is Dell going to provide more stable sources ? do we have any chance about it ?

That way if they do then its a welcome surprise. Much better than checking for official updates every day and getting disappointed Some of the fixes can be found in the old gingerstreak topic. Although I agree it would be better to have them all in one place ;) Your more than welcome to do it

Also, is Dell going to provide more stable sources ? do we have any chance about it ? permanent? Yup https://github.com/f...ak5-GingerBread have a look and fix them for me please mic phone voicemail after boot. don't need to say anything, just let it connect and disconnect after that it works perfectly till next boot. if there is an incoming call then the mic works perfectly first time. rotation needs working on, we can't work out why it dies AWD is looking again at his code. Psensor I haven't even tried yet, its a long way down the list for me. ---------------- I've just put together a new updatezip for the first image (kernel and a couple of libs) to test some stuff out, power drain is a lot less with it, and I've renamed sensors to sensors.qsd8k.so (so it duplicates the 8x50 version in lib/hw) that may help some people. update.zip is bigger than the max file size here, so grab it from xda (need to flash it over existing rom ) http://forum.xda-dev...24&postcount=70 Edited August 31, 2011 by fards
Guest fards Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) ****NEW INFO***** I've been given a present today from someone in the East. so I think its fair that I pass it on... this is a kernel from a gb rom, with some appropriate files to go with it. YOU must flash this AMSS to go with it.. http://dl.dropbox.co...52/GB3/amss.mbn If you don't know how to flash AMSS then DO NOT TRY THIS I'm not responsible for USER ERROR there is no overclock or extra governers, but tbh you don't need them at the moment, this is quick and stable staggeringly so. it will do for a few weeks! PLEASE flash the main gb2_3 rom then this one (or combine if you want to) but flash the amss as well. ***** for anyone having rotation issues can you delete the sensors.qsd8k and sensors.8x50 from the /system/lib/hw/ folder so that there is only the sensors.default.so in there please. **** Sensors work (lightsensors seems dodgy) everything else seems rock solid, I've tweaked the ramdisk quite a bit to pull into line with my build, suspend works, battery life is staggeringly good so far zip is too big to attach here, so grab it from xda till I combine it with the original and edit the post flash the original SD 2_3 then this one and the AMSS http://forum.xda-dev...254&postcount=1 Edited September 1, 2011 by fards
Guest 80sLoveCHILD Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Nice. Seems pretty good. Orientation is a bummer thou
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) OMG , I can't believe. Fards, is it really that good ? I mean is it really solving the problems that you've mentioned ? (sensors, mic...) Streak is my only Android phone so I am trying to be safe as possible. I assume that I will have to factory reset, so if something goes bad, I will have to do it twice (which is really hard for me) p.s : excuse me if I seem to be asking too much. English is not my primary language, so sometimes people get me wrong. I am not intending to be arrogant. btw, does it have front camera access and video call option (on GSM network, not IP) ? Guest 80sLoveCHILD Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Ive been using updated rom nearly 5 hours. Like it. Pretty stable Had a few fcs but a reboot soon solved that Orientation seems to be stuck in landscape. Using adw stuck in portrait and poweramp lockscreen is forced to portrait so very useable. Nice and snappy even without oc. Copy and paste in gingerbread has made my life complete. Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk

Guest El_Diablo666 Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 Awesome work, going to be flashing my streak soon
Guest fards Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) Link back up, also link to zip with amss and dsp1 in it, extract them before flashing ;) Edited September 2, 2011 by fards
Guest Azurren Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 First impressions: Force close at the start, not a big deal Real smooth, impressed Everything seems to work INSTANT GPS LOCK?!! I've never had this before on any device / rom. Indoors too! Really impressed! Still checking / testing, but this looks almost perfect atm!
Guest Azurren Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 Some more impressions: Launcher is a little jolty, not a smooth as in other roms 3d graphics works fine Google maps is smoother than usual Had two strange freezes where the touch screen and buttons stopped working when using google plus (Needed a restart to solve). However the phone itself lagged then seemed to continue working (Lockscreen, screen on/off, blinking typing cursor) I will continue testing and posting here. I recommend you try it yourself ;)
