Guest Chris Banks Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 So, my home button has recently started to misbehave, sometimes it works fine, other times it only works say once out of 4 presses. Its clearly a hardware fault, such as a loose or dirty connection at a guess. I am very tempted to take it apart myself to save the hassle of reverting back to stock, however the phone is just under 6 months old, so still with in the 12 month warranty as doing this would void it. Has anyone else experienced any of the buttons to go like this, and what are peoples experiences taking phones in to be repaired. Cheers
Guest oxyg3n89 Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) Since u have not fixed it yet,try button savior program. It lets u create virtual buttons on the screen. Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Hi Chris Banks, When you say your Home button is faulty, is it just your HOME button, or any of the others on that row...??? Also, what ROM are you running...?? Is it CM7...?? Have you tried backing up your ROM, and flashing a Froyo ROM, or entering into ClockworkMod, and try going through that..... as my Home buton stopped working, and thought the same, great gotta take it back again.... Turns out the fault was, and still is, with CM7.... happens every so often. Else where its fine!!! Cheers, Lister
Guest Gamerz Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Hardware fault you should return your handset under waranty

Cheers, Lister Cheers for your reply, Yes I am running CM7 and it is just the HOME button, but unfortunately it is a hardware fault, as I confirmed the problem when booted in recovery/CWM beore I posted. My personal guess is that the plastic isn't making great contact on the board mounted switch, and may have worn as it is by far the most pressed button. Probably just needs a little clean and repositioning. Just ran up orange now and spoke to a very helpful member of the call team, and will be receiving a new handset in the post tomorrow, so I am rather pleased. Hopefully it is a new handset rather than a reconditioned one. Glad I stopped myself opening it up and having a tinker now. Time to backup, move back to gen1 and flash stock ROM. Guest Chris Banks Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 For completeness sake, I received a 'new' handset today in a handset swap. Turns out the 'glass type' is Samsung, so I now have a OLED screen. This implies that it must be a refurbished phone, but I'm happy with it and the fast and easy service orange provided .
Guest swisstourist Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) i have 2 blades, the plastic part where I have the home button is more loosy on my new phone than the oldest one. under the back button, i can even see the light from the LED. it seem to me the plastic part is thinner or the screen is badly adjusted. There is a tiny gap of 0.3 mm missing somewhere resulting in an unconsistency on the electric contact surface where touches are pressed, resulting into a usure deformation. adjustement is the key in finer mechanic.
