Unlocked 858 - problem.. always roaming

Aloha folks. I picked up this little beauty on a trip to the UK as my Nexus One was ... "misplaced" in the men's room at Heathrow Airport and, alas, not in the Lost&Found bin. I'm now back in Canada and have unlocked it (DC Unlocker worked perfectly) and successfully flashed SmartLucky's awesome ROM (Molto grazie zio!).

The issue i'm facing is that the phone (irrespective of which ROM is flashed) is always showing up as Roaming.

I have a Fido SIM card in it and can successfully make and receive both voice calls and text messages. I also successfully get a data connection (Edge only).

I understand that i most likely won't ever get anything faster than EDGE for data since my phone provider only supports "GSM850, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900" and the 858 supports "GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS2100".

Another quirk i noticed is that the phone only connects to Rogers (Rogers and Fido share teh same network , operate under the same parent company but are separate business entities) rather than Fido (the same SIM, when placed in a local phone, connects perfectly fine to Fido and does not show Roaming).

Any thoughts? Could I possibly need a Radio update? is there such a thing for the 858?
