Guest skittleys Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) After a certain Rogers support fiasco wherein they performed a factory reset and installed the latest OS despite my explicit instructions not to (I'm not bitter at all), I now have a phone with the 4.001.17.PA.ROG version on it. Between this forum and the ones at android-forums and xda, no one seems to even realise that this (official) update exists (located right where the old 2.2 upgrade used to be: http://www.acer.ca/a...content/drivers). I'm now trying to figure out how to root my phone starting from this ROM. Can I just use malezrecovery? FYI, the "About Phone" information (I have no idea what it said with the original 2.2 update and can't find the info online: Version: 2.2.2 Baseband version: A1-05.01.07 Kernel: 2.6.29 Build: Acer_LiquidE_4.001.17_PA_ROG Edit: I took the plunge and rooted it with malez-recovery. It works perfectly. Edited September 28, 2011 by skittleys
Guest thirtytwodave Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) if you want to go back to 2.2 see this http://android.modac...om-rogers-only/ i ended up replacing the kernel with this one http://android.modaco.com/topic/339074-tut-kernel-how-to-build-a-kernel-for-acer-based-roms/ see post 2 and then rooted through malez recovery using 1.1. Other wise i used auto root also from malez but it didn't give me full root Edited September 22, 2011 by thirtytwodave
Guest skittleys Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 if you want to go back to 2.2 see this http://android.modac...om-rogers-only/ That's probably what I'll end up doing, but I don't want to do the extra step if it's unnecessary. It'll probably be straightforward, but with my luck, something'll go wrong. i ended up replacing the kernel with this one http://android.modac...cer-based-roms/ see post 2 and then rooted through malez recovery using 1.1. Other wise i used auto root also from malez but it didn't give me full root I'm a bit confused. You were able to replace the kernel without rooting?
Guest thirtytwodave Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 sorry but i have been sick for week, yes you can flash it through malez recovery
