Tethering my Blade using a USB Cable

For the first time ever Ive tried to tether my Blade ( running Android 2.3.4 and CyanogenMod 7.1.0 ) to my Mac using a USB cable, and its not working , normally when I connect on of my other older non Android mobile phones to my Mac, on the phones I select use phone for internet and away I go, but when I connect my Blade via a USB cable nothing happens. On the Blade the pull down shows USB Connected, but nothing happens after that . may be I'm doing some thing wrong, Ive done a search here and can only find references to using an app , but it has to be downloaded to the Mac , which I really don't want to do.

So is there a simple way I can just plug in a USB cable on my Blade to my Mac , and use the Blades 3G connection on the Mac ?

you are turning on usb tethering right?

go wireless and networks > tethering & portable hopspot > usb tethering

if internet is on. you should then be able to plug it in and it should work
