Hello,

I have an Orange Sanfransico / ZTE Blade which is currently running Ginger Stir Fry Beta 9.

I know there are newer versions of Ginger Stir Fry, but I just wanted some advice as to which is the best rom currently available.

Any help is very much appreciated/

AFAIK the newest cyanogens are not working 100%... The most stable version is 179??? But even with that im having some texture problems in some games like bouncy mouse and no bounce sound in doodlejump :S

GSF - people seem to be complaining of it crashing in the newest version? Someone confirm this.

Imo gsf b 26 no probs for me very smooth no crashing at all for me would highly recommend..

GSF 26 seems to be working perfectly fine as of now. Stable and fast.

You could also try elitemovil at xda.... though the ROM was baned due to WAREZ issues, still it was good. it has over clockable kernel, cyanogen mod settings , modifyable power control widget, screen shots support, reboot & recovery options with the power button itself....

i was using elitemovil r8 and was suprised to see LG Home launcher. that was another surprise but was not stable. reverted to go launcher. about to try r10 now.

Hello,

Thank you very much for you're advice, but you could tell me where I can find these roms? I believe the list of roms on this forum is outdated and I do not know where to find the newest roms.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Jon

but he can't find them because the forum is a proper mess, due to pointless threads like this cluttering up the place.

so, probably best to just go to xda instead.

Entirely your decision.

Entirely your decision.

Did you actually read what I wrote in the post that you quoted before replying?

It's not my decision at all. I'm not a moderator here. It's not my fault it's such a mess.

I meant it's your decision to go to another forum if you decide to do so. As for it not being your fault, you really should review your own posting history.

I didn't say I was going anywhere. I was just offering advice on where to find roms without all the crap that comes here. If you're going to start blaming me, rather than doing your job as moderator then I will go elsewhere.

Hello,

I'm afraid I am a bit of newbie, but I have flashed my ZTE blade before with Ginger Stir Fry Beta 9. However I would like to upgrade to a newer rom, but I don't know exactly which rom is best.

I have been told that Blade Mix 2.3 is a good one, but there are a number of different version and I don't really know the difference.

Also any other suggestion of good roms are very welcome.

Also, is the a guide on how to install these roms.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi again,

Well the best guide I can find is on this post:

http://android.modaco.com/topic/335781-22apr-guide-how-to-install-a-custom-rom-on-the-zte-u-v880-or-gen2-device/

It tell me to use the clockwork recovery manager, but it says that this will only work with a Gen 2 phone. I have used mr pig fish and I do have a Gen 2 phone, so just to check, the the blade mix 2.3 rom compatible with Gen 2 phones.

Also can anyone recommend a a good app to backup all my contact and messages so I don't lose everything which I flash the new rom.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Cheers

Jon

Hi,

I don't write on here much, but I have visiting the site for almost a year. So, I hope you don't mind if I give you my honest opinion about this forum.

I have to say that I think both of you guys have a point. Fibblesan's comment about "leaving if you want to" is justified by the fact that there is probably no better forum for the Blade than this one. Therefore, why would any developer want to leave it, unless of course, they couldn't get on with people in the community?

I have no experience, at all, with computer code or anything like it. But, I have benefited from this forum. Firstly, it was Paul's video review that encouraged me buy the Blade, and then his instruction video that proved to me that by adding a new rom, the phone could be so much more than Orange was allowing it to be.

But, I had a problem. As, much as I read his instructions, and subsequently the instructions for other roms that came out like Fibblesan's, Sabastien's and others, I couldn't understand it all enough to try flashing a new rom. It all seemed good, but too inaccessible for me. That is until Steven Harper came along.

Steven did 3 things that made all this info accessible to me. First he made a comprehensive guide that I could understand. His very clear step by step instructions and warnings, gave me the confidence to try it myself. But, he did more than that. His poll, helped me to see what roms were being used the most, which helped me decide which one's would be the best to try; and then his comparison table gave me important info that helped me refine my decision. I flashed FLB froyo r11, last spring and I think its great, but it is only 2.2.

As I look at this forum now and consider an upgrade to Gingerbread, I feel like I'm back at the same place again. I'm not sure I understand the pros/cons of a change to GEN2; I can't figure out which 2.3 rom is best, or even if it is worth waiting until ZTE give the out the 2.3 code properly. Honestly, for the average Joe off the street, this forum needs someone like Steven to show the way, in an unbiased manner. And this is where I think wbaw has a point.

But, in Fibblesan/Modaco's defence: there is no way that you could ever have a perfect forum. Look at any forum out there; they are full of debate and sometimes trivial tangents, so that you have to sift through all the stuff to get to the heart of things. This is where someone like Steven makes all the difference.

Steven's work took this forum from what seemed, to me, like a club for people who understood computer code, to something that I could understand and use. In my opinion, if this forum is to continue its success, you'll need talented developers, open debate (including all the dross), and someone has the gift to bring all this info together in a way that the common man can understand it.

Thanks to Paul for creating the forum, to Fibblesan and many like him for their hard work to make these roms, and finally to Steven (where ever you are now) , because without you this forum would have been way over my head.

Please understand, I'm making no demands. I realise and appreciate that all this has come to me freely. And if this forum ended today, I would be glad with what I have. But, on the other side of things, if developers want their work to be used by more people, than just those who understand (at least in some degree) how they do their work; then someone needs to build a bridge again.

All the best,

Bill

Edited: misspelling of Steven's name (fixed now)
