Guest ojconcentrate Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Hi guys, quick question, apart from reporting that P7 has been working for days without any problems, i saw a little problem today. (not sure if it relates to new kernel or other services running on the system). I added a SIP account via the Settings > call Settings > internet call settings. Everything works fine until i check receive calls. I know there is a warning saying that "Reduces Battery Life" but yesterday while it was enabled, from a fully charged battery i had about 40% left in 4 hours while the phone was mostly idle (no calls, no downloading, no browsing, wifi off). No data was being transferred (I have a widget that counts data on the home screen) and no more than 1MB was downloaded over cellular in this time. The phone was even physically hotter than usual for the entire period until i remember i enabled this option and disabled it, after that, everything back to normal, normal battery drain, phone cooled down etc. Is this normal? I know that 'receiving calls' for internet calls "reduces battery life" but is this what i'm experiencing normal? i actually had enabled the same thing on my wife's phone to test sip calling and her phone was the same so its not (or doesn't appear to be) a hardware problem. I've atteched logcat and kmsg and you'll notice that over half of the logcat messages are for SIPSession. this is a logcat that ran until i decided to reboot the device just to see if it help (it didn't until i disabled sip). at the begining i had an app org.lds.ldssa that may have been doing some inxeding on some e-book like content but that only runs until battety reaches 80% then stops. after that, phone was just draining battery while idle and the phone was proper sleeping since after the screen shut off i presses the home key and they phone didn't respond until i presssed the power button again. by comparison, i've intalled sipdroid and have had it running for about 3 hours now and the battery only drained 3% any ideas?logcat_kmsg.rar
Guest wbaw Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Yes, it's normal. 'receiving calls' for internet calls reduces battery life, just like it says. It has a dramatic effect because it has to stay connected to the SIP server all the time to check if there's a call coming in, that means that wifi stays in a less 'low power' mode too.
Guest ojconcentrate Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 thanks for the reply. i just thought there was something major wrong with it since using sipdroid in a state to receive calls seems to have a 'normal' battery train and the handset doesn't even get hot. still... something doesn't seem right. its almost as if the program is in some sort of loop eating cpu cycles but not sending or recieving very much data via 3g. (wifi was off).
Guest wbaw Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) thanks for the reply. i just thought there was something major wrong with it since using sipdroid in a state to receive calls seems to have a 'normal' battery train and the handset doesn't even get hot. still... something doesn't seem right. its almost as if the program is in some sort of loop eating cpu cycles but not sending or recieving very much data via 3g. My provider O2 doesn't block anything over EDGE, 3G or HSDPA. I am able to make/receive calls via sipdroid (including receive calls over H while the phone is on standby). I figured i would prefer to use the native client if that worked well. but it seems a little broken... Sipdroid it is then... shame. I wonder if 'official' gingerbread roms would have the same problem with massive battery drain.
Guest wbaw Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 official? anyway, don't switch to t-mobile, their unlimited internet isn't.
