Guest Zeldafanzero Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 I'm on a custom ROM (possibly Modaco Custom R12) and it's been fine for like 6 months. Last night, as usual, I started to charge my phone before I went to sleep, set my alarm, etc. Yesterday my battery lasted right through the day, no problems, etc. This morning when I woke, the screen wouldn't turn on, and everytime I hit the power button at the top it vibrated and did nothing. I took the battery out and eventually, after connecting it to the power without the battery in, it started up. At this point I put the battery in and it said "1%" and started charging. I assumed it was just a glitch or something had worn down the battery without me knowing and that the charger wasn't connected right or something. Anyway, I'm at work and I connected my USB to my phone so it could continue to charge throughout the day (It was at like 12% when I left the house). However, just ten minutes ago I heard my phone rumbling, and it just had a black screen. I did the same as before, except this time it would only go as far as the green android dude and then restart. It did this about 20 times, and just now (I'm not sure how) I managed to get it past the green android screen, past the Modaco boot screen and back to my home screen, but I have no idea what's happening. :( Any ideas? Is the battery dead? It's doing this while it's charging!
Guest hugobosslives Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 does it work fine without the battery? leave it plugged in without a battery for a while. if it works fine, then yes your batt is stuffed and you should get a new one of eBay. as a note, it is slightly worse to charge your blade all night as it will charge normally for first 2 hours then keep topping itself up for the rest of the night, this gradually kills your battery. but it will only reduce the battery lifetime by maybe 20%
Guest t0mm13b Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 <<< SNIP >>> as a note, it is slightly worse to charge your blade all night as it will charge normally for first 2 hours then keep topping itself up for the rest of the night, this gradually kills your battery. but it will only reduce the battery lifetime by maybe 20% Interesting tidbit... There should be a thread that holds the unknown gems such as that ^^^ +1 from me Any volunteers to start a new thread on Gems and Undocumented hidden knowledge? ;) B)
Guest worto03 Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 (edited) Hi, I have exactly the same problem on the same ROM too, I also put it down to a one off but it happened again this morning, odd really I'd have thought if it was a faulty battery it would be more consistently repeatable? as a note, it is slightly worse to charge your blade all night as it will charge normally for first 2 hours then keep topping itself up for the rest of the night, this gradually kills your battery. but it will only reduce the battery lifetime by maybe 20% I'm not sure that this is still true with todays Lithium-ion batteries as they include protection mechanisms to protect the battery from damage due to overcharging or undercharging and don't suffer from the 'memory effect' unlike many other battery types. I'm certainly no battery expert though - just what I've read. Would be interested to know if a new battery fixes your problem. Edited September 30, 2011 by worto03

But it still makes a reasonable difference.
Guest MrPuddington Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I'm not sure that this is still true with todays Lithium-ion batteries as they include protection mechanisms to protect the battery from damage due to overcharging or undercharging and don't suffer from the 'memory effect' unlike many other battery types. Unfortunately the problems remain very much the same. A Lithium battery is good for about 500 cycles, but this number is reduced when * the battery is cheap * the battery gets hot * the battery is charged beyond 80% (especially when kept beyond 80%) * the battery is discharged below 25% * the battery management is questionable It really comes down to quality. I have a 7 year old Sony, and the battery (made in Japan) is still fine (weaker, but ok). I got a second battery 2 years ago (made in China), and it is toast already. Given that the SF uses much more power, I would not expect the battery to last much longer than a year.
