Apps downloaded but not showing on Phone

I rooted my Orange San Fransisco a while ago and installed a version of Froyo on it, the problem I'm having is that when i download an app it doesn't show any where on the phone. I go to market download it, I get the progress bar, it then says's it's installing and the phone switches off then turns back on. But when i Look at the list of apps on the phone it's no where to be seen. I don't really download apps I just need one to help with the wifi issue as at the moment my phone never connects.
