Guest IanTurner Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Ahem LCD screen. If you've broken the glass then bin it otherwise this is the replacement screen and this is how to strip the vega down. Have fun

Other than a broken glass all else works fine... I was gutted when I broke the glass. I was just pulling the tablet out of a computer bag. It was in the old style folio case and all it took was the the pressure between a couple of fingers and my thumb. Not good!! I contacted the PC World store where I bought it and complained that this should not happen and so it was either a fault or the tablet / case was not fit for purpose, but after half an hour of phone calls including one to Advent, they were unable to help other than asking for a non-refundable £50 to have it sent away for repair assessment. After many efforts and a couple of letters (no reply to the first one to the PC World customer services manager) to try to get any sense out of the Dixons group the Know How team (But they don't) collected the tablet for assessment. After a couple of weeks I chased them to find that the tablet was on it's way back as the fault was not covered under warenty. Several phone calls later and still they were unable to tell me if there was an economic repair and that if I wanted to appeal against their decision then I would have to obtain an idependent technical report. Sure and how much would that cost? I just despair with the company but don't know where to go now other than keep away from Advent and the Dixons Group in future and either live with tthe crack or try a DIY repair. Any ideas? Thanks Adrian
Guest IanTurner Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 Live with the crack as the glass is bonded to the touch panel and cannot be replaced as the pair are only sold as a single unit to oems. If on the other hand we're talking a star shaped fracture then bin it or stick on ebay as spares on the off chance. Mind you I suspect that eventually flexing in the crack will cause damage to the touch panel. Apple had an advert for the iPad showing a girl riding pillion on a scooter carrying an unprotected iPad which is patently stupid but suing Apple if you did likewise and dropped the iPad would be about as likely to succeed as your complaint against PcWorld as they can reasonably claim it was a handling problem and that you wouldn't hold a full carrier bag by it's base.
