Market Verification

Right, here me out before jumping in the "obvious" solutions....

For the last month or so my android market has been really messed up.

Let me set the scene. I upgraded to v3.xxx etc at about the start of the summer. Worked fine until about a month ago, when it would occasionally not start up. When launched from the app drawer it would say something like "android account verification required, please log into your Google account". But i was already signed in..... Exiting the app and re-starting would normally solve this.

Throughout this whole ordeal my blade has ALWAYS been logged into my Google account (all other Google services work).

After a while, it would be always come up with the message. To the point where i can no longer use the market.

Now let me say what i have tried to solve this.... (because as most of you will know, I'm not exactly new to android, I know my way around)

First I tried to wipe cache's and all data the market app had. I then tried deleting my Google account from the phone and re-adding it. I tried freezing it and then defrosting it....

This bit is weird... When i try to either uninstall or "uninstall updates" the phone will freeze and reboot (100% repeatable).

I then tried re flashing the ROM (I even completely formated the system partition to make sure the gapps were whacked). Same thing happens :( And has continued to happen while updating my cm7 nightlies over the summer...

No idea what is going on here? any ideas? Everything else on the phone works perfectly.

Advice would be appreciated.....

Phone Details: UK OLED zte blade bought in October 2011 with CM7 (current nightly is n210, but has happened since July nightlies)

Don't be disappointed. I had this symptom once with new market but I am not using it very often.

I am rather using it on my PC. I was also signed.

Running GSF ROM. So it looks that it isn't ROM related and could be market problem. B)

Have you seen this thread?

These are all related! :)

yes, did read that,

no offence mate but I can't see how that thread affects me..... they are talking about lag. my problem isn't lag (in fact when it worked it was smooth)

If i'm being a dumbass and missing something here, please point it out :)

The Market v3 app is still in beta, not officially rolled out yet, there's the APK floating around on the internet and installing one version can cause problems, lag, sign on problems, verification problems, that's the point am making.

What version of the Market are you using? Important you give the exact version, press menu, tap on Settings, and look for the Build version.

Currently, on CM7 n209, and the build version is 3.1.5, and have no problems with it.

It might be worth while, to clear the dalvik cache, and to look for the gapps latest version found here, '20110828 Universal (Link)' and flash that version via Clockwork. :)

Edit: Just to point out another thing, I used to install the older version of gapps, from June, and was experiencing headaches from that version with the n179, installed a version 3.0.1 or similar on top of that, the market app would not work 100% all the time - kept asking for sign on, network errors, weird updates to the apps which did not exist etc.

yer I know, its just annoying. I would just roll back to the old market, but if I can't uninstall updates (without it hanging, then reboot)

this one is v.3.1.3

done all the cache wipes, didnt work.

think the only solution is to nuke the market and install and old version?

I suppose yes, unfortunately, nuke it and try the one from the June version of gapps - market.apk, updater and vending.apk from that zip...

PITA I know...

The latest market is 3.1.5. You can find the apk on xda forum. Use google search ;)

This latest version is a bit faster but still not so smooth as old one.

Its definitely not still in beta you get pushed the update constantly whether you want it or not as long as the market updater apk still exists.

feck. feck. feck!

old market working fine on my 3g for past day. today was connected to wifi at my uni and it pushed and automatic update to v3.1.5 to my phone :(

the good news is that it works (tho slower than i remember it). not very confident its guna stay fine.

is there anyway of making it ignore the update? have been thinking about ripping into marketupdater.apk and see if that stops automatic pushes....

do you reckon this will muck up the old market?

Use Titanium Backup, and freeze the marketupdater.apk or nuke the apk by wiping it :)

As for ripping into the apk and baksmali'ing it ... try it if you want, been there done that and needless to say its not worth the time to figure it out.

Or an idea....

Adblock does this, sets the ip address of most major known admob servers in the hosts file to 127.0.0.1 (local loopback), might be worth trying that out on the marketupdater.apk - fool it into thinking its getting updates by putting in a legitimate host that is of local loopback :)

yer, i agree. its not worth playing with the actual app. i might just remove its internet port so it can't see a connection. should stop it?

is the app needed for anything other than pushes of new markets? i.e can you still update apps and use the market fully? as i could just delete the apk and update market.apk manually in future

Not sure, the true method would be to wipe/nuke the marketupdater.apk entirely :)

That's all it does, pulls down fresh market.apk (more aptly, vending.apk which is where the market app lies in)

That should not affect updating apps IMHO. :)

yer i will nuke the market app. then install the gapps zip via clockwork and take out market updater.

sounds like a plan :)

cheers
