Guest jurrasstoil Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Hey, I'm using the CM7 n218, but had the same problem with earlier nightlies and the leaked GB roms. AVI files play just fine using rockplayer, but .mp4 or .wmv files max out at around 8fps even with low resultions like 640x360. If i'm trying to use Hardware Decoding instead of Software Decoding it starts the player, shows a black picture, you can hear the speaker turn on and then it just goes back to the previous screen without any message or error. Am I missing something here or is that normal? I kind of remember being able to play .mp4 files with hardware encoding on one of kallt_kaffe's Froyo roms - and isn't mp4 x264 not the "standard" format for Android?
Guest hugobosslives Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 works best if you convert it to standard android formats then play it in the default video player.
Guest jurrasstoil Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Tried that using different video converters (like Freemake e.g.) and used every combination i could find (x264/ MPEG4 and AAC/MP3), but the standard player won't play the files. I just get this error message:
Guest t0mm13b Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Try VLC Direct Pro from the market. :) Also, come to think of it, there's a beta version of VLC for Android floating around since it was announced a few weeks ago. :) Edited October 8, 2011 by t0mm13b
Guest hedgepigdaniel Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 VLC player or moboplayer might be useful if you have some files you really need to play, but the best method is to encode your videos so that they work with the android video player. That way hardware encoding will work, it will perform well, and it wont eat your battery. If you play vidoes in VLC or moboplayer which wont play in the standard player they probably need software decoding, and will therefore perform badly and eat your battery. Refer to my posts in this thread - I posted some handbrake presets that work well with the blade. Note that the blade (like most cheap portable devices) only supports baseline profile h.264 (meaning that it can't play most mp4 videos made for computers). If you encode a video on an mp4 container with baseline profile h.264 video and aac audio you should be good. In general, videos that play on iPhone 3GS will play on the blade.

Thanks a lot, those settings did it. I guess the converters i used must have used different codecs, because i def tried x264 w/ aac.
