Guest Chrisund123 Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 If I was to pick up a sim locked liquid metal from abroad, would rooting and flashing a new ROM unlock it? This hasn't been the case for any of the previous android phones I've used, but someone told me it works on the liquid metal? Any info gratefully received!

Quite sure rooting and flashing a new ROM won't unlock.
Guest Chrisund123 Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) That's what I thought, but I'm sure i saw some aussies saying that it had worked for them. I'll try and find a link... http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1580654&p=2 3rd post down - it's mentioned a bit on the first page too. I'll have a proper read of the whole thread when I have some more time tomorrow. Edited October 9, 2011 by Chrisund123

Well I've read the whole thread, and it's confirmed again and again that flashing 2.3.5 will unlock the phone - No idea if thats only on that one network though. More googling required
Guest jiego Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 if old rom is 2.2 flash 2.3 if old rom is 2.3 flash 2.2
Guest Chrisund123 Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 if old rom is 2.2 flash 2.3 if old rom is 2.3 flash 2.2 Sorry can you clarify that a touch? Will that unlock the phone from whatever network it's locked to, to totally sim unlocked? Thanks! Chris.
Guest westa Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 The official 2.3.5 firmware update from acer wipes any carrier locks as a side effect of how it it setup. Westa

Westa Right, I'm gonna hold you to that, as I've just bought a phone locked to a French network - if I can't unlock it with the new ROM, I'll hold you personally responsible  Wish me luck guys!
