Guest julianpaul Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 Can the blade detect the difference between a standard pair of earphones and a headset with mic? And if so, does it allow using the phone mic to speak when listening to the call on standard earphones (TRS). Can't seem to find much info on this.

From my experience on all ROMs I tried - It can't detect the difference. But I would love to find out that it's only a software limitation and that it can indeed be made to work the way you describe.
Guest julianpaul Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Well, some folks have mentioned some nokias being able to detect a standard pair of earphones and use the phone's built-in mic while using the earphones, so it's not such a big deal for the blade to do the same eh? some minor detection circuitry could do this, not sure if electronics are even required, since the TRRS socket should be able to inform the phone if a TRS or TRRS jack is plugged in.
Guest FelixL Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 The Blade is able to detect it, some ROMs show different symbols in the stautsbar, but afaik all can detect it. I considere the behavior off the Blade (detecting that the headset has no mic but not using the internal one) a bug. Maybe it can be fixed? You could try if it's on CM7.1 stable, and file a bug report/enhancement request!
Guest julianpaul Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 You mean certain ROMs do show different symbols when earphones or a headset is plugged in? which rom? Hmm, so like they finally fixed the ringtone routing when phones are plugged maybe all it needs is audio routed from internal mic instead of headset mic when regular earphones are plugged in. i know it's easy to say and much harder for the coders but hey, much worse has been solved with the blade! i'm optimistic about this being fixed too. will try out 7.1 and post a request soon.

In a lot of ways android is in the stone age when even compared to old DCT4 nokias (Bluetooth / Call Quality).
