I am a newbie so please excuse me as I am on a learning curve here. I recently purchased a Dell XCD35 (which is a Dell branded ZTE Blade Generation 2 device with Android 2.2). After reading so much about the ability to "root" the phone and upgrade it to Android 2.3, I tried the various one-click tools (like SuperOne Click, Z4root, etc). The result is confusing?

Of the two or three softwares I tried to root my phone with, all say "your phone already appears to be rooted". But there is no "super user" app or icon in my apps folder?

1. Is it possible that Dell rooted the phone to add their own tweaks and simply left it rooted but hides the super user icon?

2. Is there some other explanation that I am just not aware of?

3. Z4root seems the simplest software to use for my level. There is an option to unroot as well. Should I try to unroot and then root again and see if this fixes my problem?

4. If I try to unroot my phone is there any chance it could make it stop working? I figure no as to me rooting is simply trying to gain access rights or extra privileges----so its like turing on/off admin rights.

OK well the problem is solved. And the new OS looks great!!!!!

I basically used the Z4root again just to give it another go. And sure enough the Super User app/icon appeared. This then allowed me to use ROM manager as described in this Youtube video and that was all. Its actually quite simple thanks to the experts who created the 'one-click' softwares to assist in getting it right.

Youtube link for how to install after rooting the Dell XCD35:
