Error while installing 2.3, phone does not boot!!

Hi,

I purchased my San Francisco yesterday.

I followed a guide here and all went well, the phone started with the green text, but it stopped after I guess 6 lines and told me this: "load /mmc1/image/splash.img 85% error!".

I could not turn it off after that, so I removed my battery after waiting for about half an hour.

Then when I tried to boot it, it stayed on the android image with some kind of weird grain on top of it, like in the image in the bottom of this post.

After a while of waiting, I took out the battery again. Now I can't start it at all.

I connected it to my PC, and my PC said that I successfully connected the device "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (COM7)";

Can anyone please help me out with this?

If you can boot into ClockworkMod then I suggest reinstalling the CM7 ROM. Switch off, remove battery for a bit, boot into clockworkmod (power+vol down) and reinstall. If that fails then I suggest you check the MD5 of the ROM. If it differs from the original then redownload it.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: If not, then more detailed instructions and alternatives are here.

It won't even turn on anymore, I noticed it also doesn't turn on any light when I plug it in to my charger. Should I try method 5?

Try deleting the splash.img file from the folder with the TPT files in it, and flash the TPT again without it. Someone had this problem before, and doing that worked for them.

If your phone doesn't turn on at all then none of the methods will work. BUT, the first thing to do is to be sure that the phone won't turn on. Remove the battery for a few 10s of seconds then try booting recovery again (power+vol down). Do you get anything at all - any led notifications even if the screen won't turn on? If you are getting absolutely nothing it could be that the battery is completely flat.

I get no indication at all, and I'm sure my battery is not empty because it was at 90% before this happened.

Take the sdcard out and put it in an sdcard reader.

I would say that if you are getting no LEDs lit or any other response from the phone even after charging then you may have no choice but to return it as not working. Before doing that I would double check that the SIM and SD card are positioned OK, and I would also try booting without them. If you still get nothing I would return it.

sounds like a bad flash and possibly faulty hardware to start with. did you check the md5sum of the downloads?

did you test if it was a gen1 or gen2 first? did you tpt it to gen2? its not a greek phone is it?

those instructions are a bit old, what version of clockworkmod recovery and cm7 did you install?

although if you can't even get led's to light its all a bit academic anyway now i guess. try to return it and hope they don't say you invalidated the warranty.

If you have the ZTE DFU mode (Download Mode)

You can use the V880 Tool to reflash the absolute basics (enough to do a TPT).

Try to backup the nvitems first.
