Guest billylows Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Got a Liquid Metal on order, should be with me very soon I belive it is being shipped with the ROM already urgraded to gingerbread, I am asking for advice on what I need to do to get the most from it , do I need to root it etc........... all help very welcomed .
Guest k0zmic Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Rooting probably isn't essential, I feel the main advantage of rooting is to get extra storage space on your phone using a different method to put your apps on external memory. In addition, there is the plus of some useful Root only apps e.g. Titanium Backup, SetCPU etc. Finally, there's the ability to run custom ROM's which you may find a bit quicker and better optimized than the stock ROM's. IMO, if you're a casual user who doesn't really use/need that many apps then there's not much point.
Guest stonebear Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 (edited) IMO, if you're a casual user who doesn't really use/need that many apps then there's not much point. As a newb to android and a casual user I agree with k0zmic...but I am the type of person who does like to "play" with tech stuff so I have tried different mod roms and also rooted stock roms and sort of enjoyed learning as I go along. Was any of it really needed? Not really. :) The Liquid MT is a capable phone anyway but space can be an issue, make sure to get "app2sd" as it will help move some stuff to the sd card and I have found if you install "move2sd" then "app2sd" can actually move more stuff. I also like juicedefender to help save the battery. If you want to root the official rom the phone comes with, make sure you don't use superuser 3.0.4 as it has problems, the previous version 3.0.2 seems fine. Edited October 16, 2011 by stonebear
Guest billylows Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Many Thanks for your replies, I think that I will stay with the stock rom at the moment but if the internal memory is an issue I will root, I have moved to the liquid metal from a wildfire which was rooted and running custom rom but rooting that phone caused social network sync problems and also stopped htc set up working, are there any issues like this on the acer?
Guest Frojd Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 No issues after rooting LiquidMT, only opportunities! :D

Guest k0zmic Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Help, I decided to have a go at flashing Gingerounay 3.0 but am having difficulties when I try to install zip from sd card i get It's because it's not a flashable .zip. You're meant to plug the phone into a PC, un-zip the file (on the PC) and run the install file.

AmonRA is what you use to flash .zip files in recovery mode e.g. Superuser or custom ROM's. It will, but apps some apps shouldn't be moved to SD even if they can be e.g. Widgets and Keyboards.

Thanks, so I use Amonra to flash SuperUser, do I flash using PC and phone connected to it and once i flash Superuser ,I have root access ?
Guest k0zmic Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 so I use Amonra to flash SuperUser Correct. You use a PC to flash the AmonRA which you will then use to flash Superuser.
Guest k123456 Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Where do I downlload from, please AmonRA Recovery for LiquidMT v2.2 and Superuser 3.0.2
