General Help on Andriod

Hi, I am new in using Adriod since my old phone was running on Windows Mobile. I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S SL (GT-I9003) with Build Number (FROYO.DXKFI). My problem is that it seems to be connecting to the internet even when I am not using the phone. I am on pre-paid so when I check my load balance from time-to-time I see that my load is used up. Is this normal? I have not experienced this with my WM phone. Is there a way I can ensure that the apps in my phone will not connect to the internet unless I want it to? I have downloaded a game called SUperKO and when I play it I also notice that my load is used-up as well. I really am confused why this is so. I have already updated the settings but my load is still being used-up. Please help me on this as this is costing me. Thanks!

morning, could try downloading a apn switch app from market, to turn your internet connection on/ off , or if it just specific apps you want to block, blocking the permission for the app in question to access the internet would work. :)
